I was just commenting because it seems like the hitch in the pictures is only using a horizontally mobile hitch. If that position was a ball then the load transferred from the trailer to the place it mounts to your car when you hit a bump or the trailer hits a bump would not occur unless it was a really crazy difference in position. I'm sure its not horrible usually, but it would terrible if that ripped your bumper and support off sometime.

I say that depending on how you got the tow hitch mounted. The way that i made it, i have not had any problems with it. I am towing 600lbs. Thats bike and the trailer so. I check occasionally under there just to make sure everything is ok.Originally Posted by Normanruben
nice and clean, i like it. i wonder how much weight could be towed with an evo.
Remember that you got to be carefull when you drive the car as well. Dont gun it or take it easy on the turns. Its got 600 more lbs. attached to it.
I take it easy when accelerating or slowing down and have no problems.

Thanks for sharing load weighs. I was thinking 600 would be a reasonable range, but I am glad to hear that it is working for someone. My plan is to tow a go-kart on this http://www.redtrailers.com/ShowTrailer.asp?id=2 so I should be under 600 easy.

Good work. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. You had a need for it, and made it happen. There are not enough people around anymore who have the patience, knowledge, and the follow-through to do something new and on their own.

Harbour Freight has a trailor similar to that. Fold-up type, for a couple hundred bucks, not sure of the exact price.
I need to do something similar, so that I can pull my quad.

They might. So i am trying to buy one of those plate bracket hinges. Like the ones that guys use in Japan on front plates.Originally Posted by EVOJR$
doesnt look bad. but i think the cops will eventually try to be ****** about the plate.
That way i could just flip the plate up a little and slide in the receiver.

there are a couple of kits available for the base lancer that fit just fine and require much less effort to install than your idea.
Vishnu used one on their evo when they did the lap of america.
http://www.drawtite-hitches.com/hitc...i&model=Lancer
the link points to three different brands available that just bolt up to the stock OEM bumper beam and the factory rear tie-down.
Each are not more than $100 for the kit. but like your hitch, modifying the rear bumper skin would be required for access to the reciever.
At least with this setup, the license plate hides the bumper cuts when not being used. Can't do that with the drawtite setup...Originally Posted by chrisw

I don't understand why people keep saying this?Originally Posted by 04blksnake14
that cant be good I wouldve opted for a beater truck or something....
Sometimes people are unable to add another vehicle to their household for several reasons. There might not be space for people who live in a metropolitan area like NYC. Or they might not be able to afford it which is in most cases.
Think about it, you buy a "beater" truck like you say. Ok, you still have to register it, add it to your insurance policy which will amount to a few more hundred dollars every couple months, then you still have to maintain/service it when needed, not to mention any repairs that might come up, gas, etc.
I mean, I see what your saying about another vehicle solving the problem and stuff, but it's a costly alternative to spending under $100-150 on a custom hitch or hitch kit.
And to those who say the Evo shouldn't tow anything and why would you do that to your car blah blah blah. Cry me a river, it's our car, we make the payments, we do as we wish with them.
I personally am looking for a solution since I recently baught myself a nice mountain bike 2 weeks ago. I care about my car and it's condition so I don't feel comfortable having it above the aluminum roof(MR) nor hanging off the delicate lightened trunk with those racks. So this is my only other option. And it sounds like a good option since you can take the hitch off and conceal the hole. I like that alot.
OP, PM sent!
