What are the major differences between EVO8&9? Is 9 better than 8 or is it personal choice?

Welcome to EvoM!!!

Check out this thread...lot's of good information about the differences between VIII and IX. And, a bunch of other helpful information for someone new to the Evo scene.

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...vo+differences

Overall, the IX is better than the VIII. It comes with more power from the factory and responds better to mods than the VIII. But, they are both great cars

Cool thanks for the link

Here is what I am looking at right now. The engine mods basically mean I can kiss emissions and warranty good bye

How is the price? Why can't I find any MRs for sale?

wow, screw emissions... that's a nice car man lol Just go look at it and see if it's been taken care of. Usually just by talking to the owner you can get a good idea of whether or not the owner is a stand-up guy or if he's trying to dump the car for a reason.

basically your better off looking for a stock evo. Even though the stocks probably have been beaten i would go with it anyway because the evo with aftermarket in it is most likely the one that has been beaten the most.

Good luck finding that unicorn! Unless it is a leftover new IX still sitting on the lot, almost every evo I have seen for sale is modified. If it is not modified, it probably was at some point and the stock parts put back on for sale.

That said, a mildly modified Evo is perfectly reliable. I've beat on mine and it has never had a single hiccup. I even got 20,000 miles out of the stock tires with quite a few autocrosses included. Maintenance is just like any other car, until you have to replace brake pads!

Maintenance is a little higher than the average car, but worth the cost of ownership, IMO. I had to redo the brakes shortly after I bought mine (power slot rotors and hawk pad). Which I think was a great buy over stock without getting to pricy. It's all about what you want. Good look with your purchase.

I found that unicorn in the form of a 2004 gsr.

It may take some searching, but there are used evos out there that are truly stock (never modded). The problem is trying to distinguish them from the larger group of evos that may be advertised as stock but were actually heavily modified in the past.....

I've seen that one. That is probably the cleanest/healthiest looking modded Evo VIII i've seen on craigslist in the bay area!

I'd buy it!
