Researching befor buying a 8 or 9
maybe for future upgrades i mean everybody told me to get a 9 even ams i have the pms to prove it i wanted the most power i could get from bolt ons and they said the 9 would always make more so thats what i got this time around i had a 03 and it was great but not near as fast
I will +1 your +1.
For very simple reasons...
First and foremost, money.
The IX may always make more power. I won't argue that. The head is just flat out better. The addition of MIVEC adds some more special sauce. Its good.
Now lets all get back to grassroots 4G63.
These things make alot of power. In ANY form. All flavors, 2.0l thru 2.4l.
And have been doing it long long long before MIVEC was an option for us.
A IX may be "faster" but only in comparison to an equally built car that does not have MIVEC. To say the IX will be faster... well, I'll take a 2.4l GT35R VIII over a IX with say a 20g-lt any day of the week. which ones faster now? This may seem like a silly point to make... being so obvious. But it comes down to $. And if you are going to shred the Evo you just paid $18-$30k for... Why pay $26-30k for a IX when you can get an VIII on the lower side of $20k. Maybe less. Because guess what. THIS initial difference falls directly in line with what I just said.
motor/fuel/turbo etc... this stuff all costs money. Thousands upon thousands of dollars. Which just happens to be about the monetary generation gap between the VIII and the IX.
If you were planning on getting one and leaving it mostly alone. The extra $ spent on a newer IX might be well placed.
But your not. And unless you're independantly wealthy... (I'm sure as hell not)
Get the VIII. If you must play the middle ground get an 05. Common rom, ACD...
I got an 05 RS for this very reason. I wanted an Evo. Immediately. And I had every intention of ripping it apart over time.
As for building the motor for a 30R. Maybe not built... but, there are key issues that need addressed. Rod bolts primarily. I'm a while your in there type of guy, a trait I have learned from blowing s*** up over the last 8 years. Expecting a full life out of a stock motor on full 30R power is almost a dim statement... its eventually going to give. In far shorter of a time period than a stock(er) vehicle, and far short of a built motor.
Its the exact reason mine is coming out.
For the 30R.
