Researching befor buying a 8 or 9

Ok im somewhat new ive been lerking here for awhile and am almost ready to purchase a evo. My intent is to take it and make a very (Quick) evo and have been looking at the slowboy 2.4 conversion. My question is would it make more sense to buy a 8 or 9, i know the 9's have mivec and are usually more tourqy<----haha is that even a word---- but with a build including a stroker and maybe a gt30 or something around that size would it make more sense to get a 8. When i get my evo if its a 8 im goin to do the jdm 9 rear and evo 9 front along with the 9 suede recaros. Sorry if this has already been discussed somewhere but i searched for a while and found no positive awnser just what people have done.
Thanks in advance for any and all awnsers and just incase i did something wrong with this thread i got the flame suit on

Here's my .02: If you're going to do a complete rebuild right off the bat, then you might as well get an 8. If you buy a 9 it will have the warranty which you would completely void by building it. Also, you can get an 8 for alot less than a 9 which would be good considering how much $$ you're talking about throwing at it.

There's no need for mivec, if you're doing a complete build w/ turbo, cams, ems, stroker, and etc etc... You're just spending extra money for no reason.

Well if your going to buy an 8 and and buy all the visual mods to make it look like a IX then might as well get a 9 at the end you will have spent the same money.

Thanks all for your input. I take it there is no real benifit of mivec once upgrading from stock cams and turbo so it really comes down to if a 9 is cheaper than a 8+exterior and seat costs.
After reading about sharkbites original build with pruven thats about the route i want to go with a couple changes

WW in color, 9front, jdm rear, se lip, work emotions black t/a
SBR 2.4
Custom turbo back
ETS FMIC kit
272 or 280 cams--still researching
walbro pump
700cc injectors
alky kit
mbc
act clutch and flywheel
dynoflash tune
+all the minor supporting mods
and maybe a set of coilovers(or atleast springs)

Im still not sure of the turbo yet but a gt30 or maybe a 20g would suite my needs.
Ive been around circle track racing and tourqy v8s since i was little but grew up likeing honda and dsm as street cars. After reading about sharkbites original setup and the quickness and tourqe it had it seem like the closest thing to a v8 i could get without sacraficing the looks, practicality, and awd of the evo. Pure excelleration is what im about and big hp numbers dont matter to me.

Ive been saving and will keep saving till summer then make my purchase, i just bought a 08 raptor b4 winter and will sell it to help fund the build if necesary. And will be doing all work minus the 2.4 longblock build myself. Anything else anyone could think of that they would like to throw in would be great.

I think that you will be happier with a IX but its your choice in the end!

VIII would be better. The only thing to try to get would be an VIII with the ACD. I think that was 2005 only. All IXs have ACD.

with those kind of mods I'd go w/ a real tune instead of a flash, and maybe 850cc injectors if you pick a bigger turbo. Sounds like a good setup though.

If you're going to spend the money on a jdm 9 rear, 9 front and 9 seats, thats almost the difference in price for a low mileage 8 compared to a 9!

most people with ix are prolly still paying theres off like me lol

APS Turbo back
ETS FMIC kit

walbro pump
850cc/min INJ minimum. I like FIC
SNP meth kit
mbc
EXEDY HD TWIN DISC
SBR DYNO TUNE since you are in PA.
You can follow that with any adjustments with a Mellon tune.

I would seriously go 35R on a 2.4l. I d/d the 30R on a 2.0l and it is a great balance between an insta-boosting annoying nightmare, and responsive at all times.
With the increase in displacement there is no reason for you to be afraid of a middle of the road turbo. The additional torque provided by the 2.4l will still make it a very fun car on the street.

If you do not have an interest in big numbers that is ok. Just keep the boost down. ... and when you change your mind later ( ) you will have a good match setup engine / turbo to have more than a little fun at the track.

Please don't hesitate to drop me a line when you decide to pick up an Evo. We will be happy to do our part in getting you where you want to be.

PS- I fixed a few things on your list.

As for the 20g ~30R discussion. I will casually weigh in on my opinion. I don't like 20g's. There was alot of hype surrounding them but almost all with the bug to go a little faster than "a little" faster have dumped them for the 35R.

A much more cost friendly way of doing this is getting the 35R and keeping the boost down at first until you get the car sorted out and are ready for some more go. Then simply turning it up, and getting it tuned. This is what you will end up doing anyway... (eventually) so I'll just step in here and save you some money buying, and rebuying a turbo.

You are already going with a good power plant from the start.
I think the 35R is a match made in heaven for that engine.

^^Agreed. If you're gonna drop that kind of $$ on it then you need to put it on a dyno and have it tuned and injectors will surely be needed
