Evo IX rs, pricing questions
Evo IX rs, pricing questions
i found an 06 IX rs with 42k on it and an asking price of 22k. no wing, radio, or power anyhting. basic rs. im going to talk with them saturday and i dont want to leave without this car. but i dont want to pay 22k for an 06 model with 42k miles on it. obivously im going to talk them down. but, my point being, im going to bring up the miles as an issue, since its a used evo. i think average american mileage a year is around 12k. and this car is 2-3 years old with almost twice yearly mileage. this on top of the X releasing, my super hardcore jewness/ballbreaking, and the above noted mileage and age issue should net some discounts. or am i just dreaming too big? anyone work at a dealership with tips on this, or should i stay away from this evo?

FYI: when i bought my Evo last year, there was an '06 RS there with about 10k miles on it and they were listing it around $22k. I definitely would make sure not to pay that on the one you're looking at considering it has 32k more miles and its been about another year past. I drove the car and it was completely stock and still in practically brand new shape. Careful with that one.
prchico19-where was it you saw this rs? evo-x owner2b-i remeber alot of hype about the rs, mostly because of the cost savings and a more open platform to mod with. i just got lucky and found one in a gmc dealership in bfe tennesse. crx2evo- dont be a dick man. im asking for help, because i want the best deal i can get. im asking individuals who are more intelligent on the matter to give me their input so i can make the best decision on my end. well, in order for me to "do it well" i need info beyond mine to assist in my decision. so if all you can offer me is a statment that basicaly says "do whatever you want to, but do it well!", then please, don't be ***. im just asking for help from good people in a community i would like to be part.
I just looked up the blue book for a '06 evo RS with 42k miles thru cars.com. It shows the value at 22,800 in excellent condition. If the car is in excellent condition, completely stock, I would offer them like, 19k-20k.
One thing, make sure the clutch is in good condition. If it's not, or if it's been replaced, this tells you it was driven hard or by someone that doesn't know how to drive. And let me tell you, when I went to go get my car tuned, there was a kid that said he had to get his clutch replaced on his '06 w/ only 10k miles.....

So that kid with 10k miles on his almost stock car that needed a new clutch didn't drive his car hard all the time and/or didn't know how to drive an AWD clutch? How could it go out so soon?? I have 10k miles on my car and it feels brand new.
I know a few other people that have needed new clutches inside 20k miles....it just so happened they 1/4 mile their car a lot. You're saying them dragging their cars has no bearing on replacing their clutch so soon??
I'm just warning the guy that one of the things he should inquire is if the car has had a new clutch put in, and if it has, when. That could possibly tell him how the car has been treated. Can it not??
a new clutch is def a sign of trouble. you can have a weak clutch, all mechanical things have oddities that can cause them to fail. but should i be concerned about the radio delete panel i saw and no wing. im not keen on specs and i cant figure this out from a search, but it looks like the wing was optional. so im not too worried there. and yes, the rs was in low numbers, theres a post of the exact numbers. but no power windows, locks, radio, cloth interior, questionable "custom exhaust" (have not seen it yet, could be stock), 42k miles on a 06, and the fact some people cannot drive awd, let alone an evo. and still 22k? i dont think thats right, yeah kbb says one thing, i understand that, but dealing with this car and the nature of it is totally dif than kbb's expectations. i want to drill these guys and get a badass deal. if not, ill go home and keep looking in search of my evo dream.
What if it was replaced at 41,000? What does that mean then?
What if a 38 year old mother of three owned it? Maybe driving it in heels burnt it out at 24,000?
As stated its not a representation of how the car was treated.

To the OP, don't be concerned about the radio, the RS doesn't come with a radio, so they put that delete panel on there instead. It should come with the 3 gauge panel underneath the climate controls also, does it have that? I believe the wing was optional on RS's, but I've never seen one with a wing. I hope you can bust their ***** a little bit and get a great deal on the car!!
@TTP, let me clarify what I was trying to say from the beginning, I wasn't trying to say if the clutch has been changed its a guarantee that the car has been mistreated. But, if the OP checks out the car, the clutch is good, but the guy says it was changed at 20k miles, what does this say?? Some how the car was driven well and treated kindly, yet the clutch magically goes out at 20k miles??? Wouldn't this scenario be a representation of how the car was treated?? Or maybe your 38
yr old mother of 3 owned it, in which case its likely it hasn't been maintaned at all!! stay away!!!
Now, If the clutch was changed at 41k then yes, maybe it was well taken care of, if thats the life expectency of a stock clutch with a stock car. Or if it hasn't been changed at all, and it still feels really good and doesn't slip. The car no doubt hasn't been launched or raced much, if at all. All of this would be a representation that it wasn't driven hard all the time, and beat up, now wouldn't it.
My point was that the OP should drive the car, and pay some special attention to the condition of the clutch, regardless, and while you're at it OP, when you test drive it, make sure none of the gears grind, and it shifts relatively smoothly.

I wouldn't give 10000 for it....
/end sarcasm
im not too concerned about the power options, or even a radio, and cloth is ok with me. leather burns my ***, in a car, not a gay statement. i want an evo, not a radio thats is exactly the same as the one i have in my current lancer. haha, i can always steal mine b4 trade. so i def need to check the clutch, check for slipping, and confirm the gear shifting is smooth. should any attention be paid to the trans housing and transfer? i know the clutch is one of the biggest issues with an evo, but what else is a good area to check for common non-maintained problems? and thanks for the help guys.
