Stock Clutch Chatter?

does the stock clutch ever start to chatter? i only have 12k miles on my car and recently i noticed a rattling/vibrating noise that comes and goes while i'm driving. it sometimes even sounds like metal grinding. i can feel my pedals and floor vibrate a little whenever it happens. when i start the car i hear a quick rattle from the front left side of my car. it sometimes happens when i slowly accelerate from a stop. anybody know what this could be?

maybe it's your downpipe rubbing against your transfer case. Mine was making a rattle noise after I installed mine. I got the rubber mallot and pounded it away from the tranny.

well i installed my downpipe a few months back and i dont remember hearing any kind of rattling noises unless a bolt came loose or unless i just noticed it now because i was looking for noises. i think i'm boosting normally though. i recently changed my tranny/t-case/rear diff fluilds and installed swift mach sport mr springs. i dont think the noises are from the springs thought because i lubed the strut bearings and made sure the front left spring was seated properly 3 times! also because the noises happen when i'm driving straight. i haven't gotten an alignment yet because i wanted to figure out the problem first.

+1 on the downpipe idea, keep in mind the stock hangers have a tendancy to stretch over time especially with an aftermarket dp, make sure that the downpipe isn't resting on one of your tie bars underneath the car, if so then there is your answer to your vibrations, if its directly a clutch related issue, then I would assume its your TOB, which would sound like a marble in a can, make sure your dp clears everything

p.s I notice you have a megan dp, those can sometimes have issue with one of the tie-bars

It's probably not your throwout bearing. Search for "clutch noise"...all Evos make a rattling sound when the clutch is engaged (i.e., pedal is released) and the car is in neurtal and idling. Not quite sure if that is what you're talking about, but every Evo has it, and it's non-serious. There was some speculation that this common rattle WAS from the throwout bearing, but to my mind that was pretty well debunked. Healthy TOBs do not make noise, yet every Evo makes this noise. Best theory is it's play in the tranny gears that causes some wobble when there's no load on it.

Does the noise go away when you press in the clutch?

Also the theories about the exhaust also have merit. There are no fewer than 3 places I have found where an after market exhaust often rattles against:
1. The ACD case under the transmission. Fix by pounding out down pipe.
2. The tie bars that go under the exhaust. Fix by using bushings or washers to offset tie bar.
3. This one had me guessing for a while. There is a bracket and bolt on the underbody that can contact the mid pipe near the rear O2 sensor. I eventually fixed this in an extremely ghetto way...I glued a rubber furniture foot thingy to the mid pipe with hi-temp silicone. Doesn't rattle anymore

Did you figure out what the rattle was? I have similar symptoms including the quick rattle from the front left when I start the car.

+1 on that!

Does this "chatter" happen when the car is cold only? Or does it happen once warmed up too? I've heard about Megan D/Ps rattling before, but that wouldn't explain your pedal vibrating.
