I agree with 4ws. If they are giving you 25k for your car and the max you can sell your car is 27k then it's worth trading it in. you will have tax savings when you trade in your car. for example, the new car is 30k then 30k-25k is 5k. Your only taxable for 5k instead of the whole 25k if you sell your car privately.

Thanks for the input. I do still owe over $20,000 on the car, so the tax savings may not be that great. I put up a feeler with some pictures in the for sale section and posted an asking price of $28,000. That is still less than the average price on Autotrader. We'll see if anyone is interested.
