'New' IX RS..Never made it home:(
I bought my brand new evo for 28k back in 2005. I think they want a bit too much, for 27.9k you can buy a regular one with same milage but that depends on the state you live in. Im glad you decided to return it back, because if something else would happen, They would blame you again. Next time you decide to buy an used evo, just make sure you check everything in/out. Still i think its pretty hard, anyone can return the car back to stock.
To the guy that said he deserved it: Nobody deserves anything like that. (Sniffing glue and paint is dangerous, you should really lay off)
To the Evo buyer: Are you really asking that question? When that big of a Gorilla takes a $h!t in your yard, turn around and walk away.
The car lot should stand behind that situation. Even they can see what needs to happen in this situation. Follow their lead and return the car.
No offense, but use your head. Find another Evo, there are and will be plenty. Your are in a totally reasonable price range to expect a really good used Evo.
So far you've lost nothing - but learned some lessons - that's a good thing
Good Luck

Now I dish out my fair share of asshat comments but yours it just absurd.
Plenty of people buy used Evos. We're not all ballers or people fighting to make a $600 monthly payment
I got a killer deal on a used 2005 Evo and have had it for over a year without a single issue.
So get real

Give that car back quick. Even if the car had 9k, you still run the risk of buying a car that has been torn up at the track. Unfortunately, whoever buys that Evo will end up on the boards posting, "Anyone own this EVO?"
Buying a used Evo is huge gamble period, unless you know the owner personally or if you're a mechanic. Or better yet, take a mechanic with you. Pay him/her a few bucks to look over the car.
Good luck.

Dude, if the 100+ responses on here weren't enough to convinve you, here's another one: take it back and try to locate a used Evo from a Mitsu dealership. Even if its abused a little, you will still likely find a better example to purchase that won't break on the drive home.
Keep persevering and you will find the right one for you. Good luck.
