i think if the cop has nothing better to do, then they will mess with you. i got a ticket from local police already for not having front plates. later on the month, i went out of town and a state trooper pulled me over for the same thing. i swear i saw about 20 cars drive by with no front plates. but i was the only bright blue car on the highway when he pulled me over. i guess he had nothing to do with it. then i told him i got a ticket for no front plates, and he checked my ticket and let me go, but he commented on my tints. luckily he wasn't an *** and give me a ticket for darkass tints. but yeah, 86 bucks is expensive for no front plates. it blows.

In Cali, not having a license plate isn't just a small fine. It's probable cause for the officer to pop your hood and look for everything illegal.

It sux but I'd rather NOT give the cops any reason to pull me over.

What if the plate is on your on your dash besides your front windshield? I wonder if the radar can catch the reflective material through a windshield.

when I had my first 240 back when i was 16, i was going to school and was just driving along with traffic. A cop drove past and pulled a u-turn and drove THROUGH the pack to pull me over. This was the conversation:

Me: Why did you pull ME over?
Cop: Have you ever gone fishing?
Me: Yes
Cop: Did you ever catch all the fish?

He says that last sentence as he tears off my ticket for speeding and walks away.

well, my hometown here in Mcallen, TX, you can have the license plate on the dash inside, but apparently the neighboring city of Mission doesn't allow this. my fine for having the license plate in the wrong place cost me 100+ dollars.

I never had a front plate on my Z when I had it and I don't run one on my Chevelle or my Evo. I know CA requires you to have one, but I haven't gotten bothered for it at all yet. Guess I better knock on wood for that.

As stated both plates are req for Texas. The real point is not weather the cops can radar but now that they have you stopped they can take a closer look, run your plates, look for other "things" out of place and potentially make that no license plate stop into a much bigger problem for you..get smart and put it back on...In the last year or so its gotten bad...at one point I got pulled over 4 times in 5mos..not radar...just no plate and a chance for them to run my plates and check all the small things like lights, insurance etc..don't be fooled by the obvious. They didn't pull you over to smile and talk.

+1 to the comment about lady cops

Also they don't need the front license plate to get you with laser. It's just their easiest target to get you. Most departments use regular radar anyways still (depending on where you live).
