I don't think its fuel cut, Fuel cut usaly stops the car cleanly and abruptly. Its not like a fuel cut to make a bang. I would say put the STock BOV on with it recirculated and see if that fixes it. If not even go and put the stock airbox. Then report back.

Yeah, fuel cut. Get a tune(flash) as it is probably running way rich. Some Evo's, mine included, don't like too much fuel when going WOT in the midrange. Mine is doing this right now at about 3400 RPM and 22 PSI. If you look in the rear view when it happens you'll probably see a huge cloud of black smoke when it happens. You need the fuel table leaned out via a flash.

Incidentally, what are you doing with that Godzilla on your Evo? Is it recirculating, or venting to the atmosphere? Get an original Mitsubishi metal DV on there ASAP.

hmmm.... ok it's a drop in filter, no biggie, and a VTA blowoff... anything else on the car that's not stock? The BOV might be causing problems, but I can't see a stock Evo with a drop in hitting "boost cut" or fuel cut... I thought you had an intake, not just a drop-in

It could be just to the fact that youd be getting max boost in 4th or 5th gear as compared to 1st or 2nd. i.e. you might hit 21-22 in 1st or 2nd but 24-25 in 4th and 5th and maybe the timing is too advanced for the setup or octane
