Typically maf scaling or smoothing.

With the HKS suction intake you got to compensate for the fact that at high rpm/boost the intake tricks the maf into thinking there is a lot more air coming in than there is really.

What is the lean side of the Air/Fuel on an Evo 8? I know high side is 12.5 but mine is running at about 10.7 it seems lean to mean but wanted to double check

are we talking about WOT and full boost?

On pump gas , 93 octane, it would be silly to run it leaner than 11.5 Afr. On the 91 octane here you really want to be just below 11.0 AFR i run 10.8 to be safe. There isn't a lot of power to be gained by running the edge of lean so people tend to go richer to be safer.

Race gas is different since the octane is so high you can run 12.0 AFR even with high boost.

Try not to get confused with running with E85. A wide band sensor is setup using a lambda sensor. The AFR you see on the gauge is a multiplier against the lambda. So when running e85 14.7 AFR with a gas wide band is still 1.0 Lambda. Since gas AFR's are easier for people to grasp than lambda most people will recommend running just around 11.8 AFR on e85.

Any evo tuner can do this for you or you can do everything yourself with a laptop/Tactix cable/programs. You can get the car street tuned or dyno tuned. Either way, a tune is the true way to unlock the potential of an Evo. It gets you the most out of your mods and allows proper adjustment for fuel/boost/etc. Bottom line, GET A TUNE!!!

- I only mentioned a reflash because it is the most sensible option for someone new to modding
- Search the forums for tuners in your area or those that offer mail in flashes.
- Increases power as well as gas mileage.
- A TUNE IS THE MOST WORTH WHILE MOD FOR THIS CAR - WHETHER YOU INTEND TO MOD IT OR NOT!!!
Are there any good resources for how to tune the car myself ('03 Evo VIII)? I looked in the tuning section for older evo's but I couldn't find a guide on how to go about tuning.

This mod guide is a great resource.

I have a quick Cam question. Now I know that Cams are probably the best bang for my buck. I have recently done a few mods to my car, and in December I will be getting a tune. But I was curious.... If I do cams is it going to ruin my drive-ability at all? My Evo has 76k miles and is my daily driver. I dont want to lose any reliability or create problems. I would be going small like a 264, but stock spring and retainers.
