Serpentine belt vs. balance belt

Hey everyone i just got off the phone with a performance shop, i was talking to them about installing my cams and they told me i had to change three belts the timing, balance, and serpentine belts. But i thought the serpentine and balance belt are the same? Can someone clear this up please.
Thanks

You do not have to replace any of those belts to install cams. However if your car is a 60kmiles you should change all of those belts as maintanance.

Oh and the serpentine belt rotates the ac compressor, alt., power steering and the balance shaft belt turns the balance shafts and oil pump.

A balance shaft belt works in combination with the t-belt. It has nothing to do with the serpentine belt which drives the waterpump, powersteering, and A/C.

^If you have alot of miles on the car it would not be a bad idea. I have done 10 cam installs and never changed them and not had a problem.

You always read here timing belt but it should be timing belts - the engine has two.

I'm assuming your referring to the balance shaft belt as a second "timing belt". Don't confuse me!!! (and the OP for that matter!)

He must be... since the timing belt correlates with the balancer belt.

Timing Belt -60k
Balance Belt-60k
Serpentine Belt-30k

Hope this helps (:

I was thinking like, "is there another timing belt hidden in the metal core of the block that I don't know about!?!"

Thanks for confirming I'm not going insane.
