What are the best gauges?
Soo like the title says I just bought a tripple pod pillar and I want some opinions on what the best gauges are to install that will help a tuner to tune my car.
Boost
Wideband
EGT (optional)
Most tuners like the results of gauges to be able to be loggged, wideband especially. The following Widebands can be logged in our logging apps (mitsulogger, evoscan).
Innovate (LC1, LM1, etc)
AEM (Uego) (Truboost)
Zietronix ZT2 (can log boost and wideband)

ok so noob question here... what is a wideband .. I've seen alot of comentary about people getting one or wanting one.. but what do they do.. the ones I've seen are usually mounted but not in a pod. They are square and look like a afc to me.
PLX has a very good wideband.
I have a prosport EGT gauge, very nice for how cheap it was.

Check out the two videos at the bottom it will explain narrowband and wideband.

FloppyDisk, PLX makes fine widebands, the only reason I mentioned the ones that I did is because they are loggable with the software that is readily available for tuning the Evo. Is the PLX loggable in EvoScan or Mitsulogger yet? If they are not then I would not recommend them.
Kilratio, A wideband measures the amount of oxygen in the exhaust. It gives a lamda reading that most people convert to AFR. When you car is tuned, the tuner will tune the fuel to a safe air to fuel ratio. A wideband can measure oxygen levels from about 9:1 to 18:1. A narrow band oxygen sensor only is accurate at stoich (14.7:1) and only reads leaner or richer than that so it cannot be used for tuning a car. Typical gasoline powered Evo's idle and cruise at 14.7:1, but go richer under boost ~11:1 AFR.
When you tune a car most people start by tuning the fuel at a specific boost setting and then tune the ignition timing - often times re-visiting the fuel for fine tuning afterwards.

I have a similar setup except I have the Stewart Warner boost gauge on the right and the red DB on the left. The only downfall is it is difficult to see the fuel gauge but I just judge when it is time to fill up based off of the mileage and then confirm it with a peak around to the fuel gauge.
ive have a defi boost gauge i just won from ebay and love it but ive also had two prosports oil press and boost the oil press always worked fine but the vac to boost only worked when it wanted and yes it was wired up right lol but i did email pro sport about it while they did not offer to exchange the gauge they did keep in touch and offer tech support
