That's what I did, except less the one mile when I noticed the leak. I knew right away that I forgot to tape the second fitting.
Good luck.

I was thinking I could just remove it, plug the hole then clean tape and reinstall

I have the same leak as the original poster, though it's coming from the oil plug that used to feed my old turbo. I have yet to get it to seal completely. This is my 5th 4G63 powered Mitsu, and they all had an oil leak at some point. I also have a very small trans leak between the T-case and trans that's been there since I rebuilt the engine.

The vacuum regulator nipple cracked upon putting the tranny back in. Took me forever to find it, then taking it out blind was a joke.

The TB seals were easy to fix but yea it was a bad leak as well.

hmmmm....how many miles are you guys seeing all these fluid leaks at? I've got 17k on my 06 IX MR, and have no such leaks. Not fluid, or boost. ::knocks on wood::

I'd just like to know when I should expect leaks to occur and where the most common spots are.

My TB seals went at 25k - almost on the nose. My FI seals I noticed after I was tuned to 24.x lbs of boost (not the o-rings but the main fi seals). And I still have no fluid leaks.

I have 34K on my IX, and after doing a Boost Leak Test last week, there was no leak at the TB. The shaft seals are not only related the miles, but also by time.

I have 33k - almost 34k on my IX and my TB shaft seals aren't leaking yet either. Will be doing another boost leak test in the spring when the weather breaks, now that I said this they will be leaking...haha.

I installed them on a local Evo VIII here in Pittsburgh - was a piece of cake, I may do mine someday when I'm bored just for something to do.

See, I'm not the only one with those type of miles, on a IX.
And I hear you on the Bored and looking for new projects. Nothing like a warm garage, cold beer and some tunes, to make you come up with new projects.

I would recommened PPI for a Boost Leak Tester. Very well made and has a guage installed, so it all in front of you, when doing the test. There's a couple "How to" step by step, on how to test. If you don't have a compressor, you can pick up a 125psi tank at Walmart. I think I paid $23 at Walmart for one.
