Ive had my car for 1.5 years with most of the mods in my sig and I have yet to have any issues.Still have the stock clutch to.Of course I don't beat the **** out of my car.Just remeber the better you take care of your car the longer the motor and tranny will last.If you beat the crap out of your car 5 speed or 6 speed will go out.

Whats the best solution to keeping the tranny cool and/or strengthening it so us 6speed owners dont get owned?

The 6 is nice for DD, however I ended up with a 5 speed becase I bought the SE. Best of both worlds, having the aluminum roof. The two gear box's are close is size, with the 5 being a little lighter. The 5 speed gears are a little bigger and stronger. Also the 6 speed is designed like most, which have gears 1-6 in a straight line so to speak. Basically both will last you, however the 6 is more expensive to rebuild. This is coming from a mechanic and someone I know who actually works for Mitsu north america Corp. I was informed by him that if any mods were to take place in the future, do not buy the 6.

Not much you can do. Some seem to think the stock fluids give you the best chance of keeping it together. I wouldn't deviate from stock or exact equivalent. You could also piece together a tranny cooler if you're that concerned. Heat is the enemy on gears 4-6. I only think a few people have blown up their 6 speeds at the drag strip while the majority **** the bed on road courses. Overall, while weaker it isn't as if the 6 speeds are falling apart all over the place.

i love the 5 speed the gears are longer which is better for racing and driving around town. But i wish i had a 6th gear for the highway but i dont drive highway very often so idc.

Daily driving, minor mods - 5-speed or 6-speed... the difference isn't drastic, honestly
Drag racing, road racing, major mods - 5-speed

if i had the time and esp the money i would've gotten a 5spd w/ ssl

btw ---> not the racer type, have driven both my evos as dd - 5spd was an 03 and was pretty kool but didn't enjoy the whine of the engine on the e-way...MR is a better suited DD and definitely a different creature...

The SSL is a nice DD package. I'm speaking from experience.

^ But if you could do it all over again, with all of the choices laid out in front of you (IX, RS, SSL, SE, MR, MR SE), would you have gone with the SSL again? Not trying to make a point or anything, just curious.

The 6 speed needs a tranny cooler for road racing events, search for thread titled tranny cooler. As far as I can tell from my looking that is good enough for road racing. Now if you plan to drag race, well 5 speed, new clutch and a truckload of money.

The 6 speed should have better highway mileage, city mileage is down to how you drive, but the 6 speed may be slightly worse due to the closer ratios.
