bent slave cylinder push rod

i was driving to pick up a friend today then i depress my clutch pedal to go into neutral because i was coming to a red light... when i depress my clutch...the pedal didn't come back up...it sunk all the way down..i was like wtf...i lifted the pedal up with my foot with ease then it wouldn't go down... i thought my clutch was gone.....i got the car towed home and check everything out... the clutch release cylinder push rod going to the release fork was bent at a 90 degree angle..anyone have any idea what could cause this...

I have no idea why that would happen, especially just all of a sudden. Perhaps it was simply a faulty rod...maybe impurities in the metal when it was made? Who knows.

As far as the extended rods, I remember reading threads about people saying they were complete BS and a waste of money. You don't need one, especially if you have a stock clutch. I believe the extender rods are suppose to serve a purpose on the multi-plate clutches like the Exedy Twin.

If you aren't having any luck tracking one down, try sending RussellM a PM. He's the EvoM vendor for MitsubishiParts.net

They are like 30 bucks new. I just had to replace mine for the same. Aftermarket clutches presumably put a little more stress on it. Got it from Oriley's Autoparts

Strange problem, never heard of it happening before. If the slave cylinder itself is ok, I know that mitsu sells the rod by itself because I just put one on a car that went from a triple disc clutch back to a stock style clutch and didn't have the original rod. I didn't have to buy the whole slave cyl. The rod is only a few bucks by itself. Good luck

alright..i bought a brand new slave cylinder and installed it but getting no pressure what so ever... i got barely any fluid coming out of the line going to the slave cylinder. i was told that the clutch pedal should atleast return a little but my pedal just drops all the way to the floor. It could be a bad master cylinder... i tried bleeding it multiple times... and i also read on the forum... and a member said it could be the retainer ring for the throwout bearing came apart then i would have to take out my whole trans which is really bad... the release fork is all the way pushed to the passenger side.... any ideas anyone? it makes no sense why something like that would happen from regular driving...any advices...

It is difficult to bleed the evo clutch hydralics, I use a vacuum bleeder that sucks the fluid out using shop air (quick and easy). If you are doing it manually then you need to have one person pump the clutch pedal and one person to crack open the bleeder. Pump the pedal 5-6 times (the first time it will stick to the floor) then while you are holding the pedal to the floor, crack the bleeder but don't release the pedal from the floor until the bleeder is closed. Repeat this several times until the pedal feels normal. You will have to pull the pedal off the floor each time after the bleeder is closed so don't freak about that. I have had trouble trying to do it manually myself before on evo's. I don't know if the clutch master getting its fluid from the brake resevior has anything to do with it but it might. Make sure you keep the resevior full too during the whole process. Good luck.

It took me like 10 minutes of straight pumping and a friend opening and closing the screw before the pedal felt right. A bent push rod shouldnt have damaged anything else. Hopefully any way..

sounds to me like your clutch clip popped. If the release fork is all the way to the pass side, its almost a certainty.

Most likely what happened was your clip popped, you pulled your pedal up and tried pushing the clutch again and because the fork was against the pass side of the opening, you bent the rod because the fork would not move.

when your clutch is adjusted too low, the slave cylinder push rod is very loose that any vibration can even pop the rod out of the slave cylinder.

you know..it sounded alot like what you said but one thing it didn't make sense is my car can't build any pressure what so ever right now... i replaced the slave...and took the master cylinder out to check....check hose for leak...everything is fine but it wont build pressure.....

if you dont mind me asking...you work for AMS right? i dont live too far away....how much you think it will cost me just to replace my stock clutch with an aftermarket one so that should solve the problem...i been wanting to replace my stock clutch for a while now anyway.....

I see the ams guy is offline, but I am pretty sure their website has quotes, and they may cut you a deal on top of those prices? (who knows)
