My 2 year old has been riden in my 03' Evo, 04' Cobra and now him and his 2 month old ride in the back of my 9. There isn't anything wrong with putting your child in the back of a EVO. Just make sure you know how to fasten the child seats in correctly first.
^^ Alot of cars have less attactive crash ratings than the EVO too. That means nothing. The EVO makes up that 2 star rating in its all around capabilities to avoid said situations. Excellent brakes, engine response, handling, and AWD. Make for a pretty versitile and all around safer driving expierience
The back seat area scored well, especially for the height of a car seat. Also this is a lancer es tested, not the Evo. The Evo has side crash beams in the doors, reinforced chassis, and weighs almost ~800lbs more than a ES which should increase it's ratings.

Rear passenger — Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity.
Rear Passenger Head and Neck "G"
Rear Passenger Torso "G"
Rear Passenger Pelvis/Leg "G"
Rear Passenger Head Protection "M"
I'm assuming G=Good, M=Marginal, P=Poor

the car has anchors for the latches, its safer for child seats than A LOT of other sports cars. My ex and I (pre-ex era) baby sat her 4 and 6 yr-old cousins for a whole day. Their seats sat perfectly and they loved every bit of it. I had to turn off the music they were giggling so loud. Either it was bumpy, noisy, or fast and they couldn't get enough. My only complaint is that their feet were in perfect kick range to the cheap plastic backing of the recaros... Otherwise we had loads of fun that day, and it was super easy to take them in and out of the seats too.
My E-class is like a tank and can pretty much take out an SUV, but how many people are gonna spend 70k for safty on this evo forum?
The Evo isnt the best, but its much better then:

Doing something that stupid is one thing, but then admitting it online to 50,000+ people is quite another. That is amazingly scary...
For the guy who said he wouldn't put a baby in an Evo, there are many of us who have Evos specifically because of our kids. I personally would have a Vette, Cobra, or some other hot coupe probably if not for the need to have 4 doors. My son had his infant seat in the rear and now has his black Recaro race seat that he loves...it works perfectly.

I think alot of us would. I personally would have a vette, used, but a vette none the less.
There is nothing wrong with carrying your child in the Evo as long as they are PROPERLY secured. I don't condone taking hard corners with a young baby in the car especially if they aren't yours. As far as not securing the seat properly that's all operator headspace and timing. Read the instructions.
Here is the earlier small car test, The Lancer does score higher than most, getting a Good rating on front impact and a P on side like most others. However if you read the actual side impact test then you'll find your children in car seats are actually very safe due to their lower height. We have 2 children aged 5 and 3 that ride in either the Evo or our STI on a daily basis. I feel even better about them riding in the Evo after analyzing the data.

Only 2 earlier small car models scored a Good on side impact, The Saab 9-2x and the Subaru Impreza (excludes WRX / STI models which scored Poor). The Toyota Corolla scored Acceptable. The rest of the field scored Poor.

I drove my daughter home from the hospital in the Evo and back and forth to daycare every day.
I use the LATCH restraint system with a Reccaro Como anchored rear-facing in the center of the back seat.
She falls asleep on the way home usually.
