So basically the EVO is a supercar because it does all these cool things, and can do it with 4 people ( or 5 not so comfortably) to witness it.

Well, having read that Motor Trend article, I admit the EVO "looked" out of place among those cars, but it did an excellent job hanging with the group in terms of performance. And after seeing the EVO's numbers, the pricetag should have impressed anyone. Ragging on the EVO is pure ignorance.

Oh, and what makes a car a "super car"? And what distinguishes a "super car" from an "exotic"? Place of origin? Price? Performance?

OKAY.. I am on this board.. so i'm not trying to bash on the damn EVO!!! I plan on getting one in January... hopefulyl sooner.. but things ain't looking to well.. so please don't tell me i'm ragging on the EVO... i also mentioned the Evo is about the best performance car you can get under 30k... it will hand its *** to some cars.. and is an amazing machine.. it can get power so easily and it can kick cars that cost about 50k!!! That's awsome..

I am simply stating why i Honda prices the NSX at 90k.. altho it may be a little high to what the car should be priced at it.. i can completly understand why it's prices so high.. and as i've mentioned in my past post.. Just like how this 30k car (EVO) can take some 40, 50k cars... the NSX (90k) cars can take some 150k cars... that's damn impressive just as the evo is damn impressive...

Only thing i was bashing on the Evo is that.. NSX, Supra, Skyline GT-R, RX-7.. if you all notice they come with luxery and Perforamnce.. i said that but not in a bashing way..and sorry if it came off like that.. one of the reasons i like the Evo is the fact that it's race prepped much like the ITR (Minumun luxery, pure performance)... but to make an true exotic car.. i think one has to realize that Luxery deffinetly plays a good role in there...

Um, sorry about the confusion, but I wasn't refering to you, or anyone on this forum specifically. I was talking about the people who wrote in to the magazine.

No worries

And my question about "super car" vs. "exotic" wasn't a sarcastic remark. I really would like to hear people's opinion about what makes a car what....

Curious to what you guys have to say....

Here's the thing when i think about Supercar... no1 will probz feel the same about me on this.. i think of those 800hp concepts and all those futuristic cars and such.. that like shaves while you drives.. j/k about that.. but seriosly.. usually the concept type cars...

And i consider Exotic cars.. Ferrari, Lambo's, i herd a couple people refrence the NSX as an exotic so as i started to do the same... imo its more of a sports car.. but the fact that it can handle itself against a F50.. i give it props....

No problem.

By the way, I LOVE the NSX! I had a friend who owned a '92 for a little while. I never got to ride in in unfortunately. I was only allowed to sit in it, as it was in the middle of winter and there was two inches of snow on the ground. I was still in high school at the time, and the car intimidated the hell out of me, because it was so nice, and because I felt like I was sitting so low to the ground I could barely see over the dashboard. Damn that was a nice car!

What's the big deal with the letters? Lined up next to those other cars(besides the fords) the EVO is ****in ugly. It also came in at the back of the pack for most of their acceleration/top speed tests. Sure it can handle and brake with the best of em, but I could see anyone interested in a Viper, Mosler, Ferrari, etc looking at the EVO as a tarted up lancer. It's just not in the same class as any of those purpose built sports cars.

How a person thinks a car looks is just an opinion, and we all know what opinions are like . I agree that the ferraris, lambos, porsches are purpose built, but so is th evo. Why don't we do a rally car comparison with these cars and see who comes out on top. All it would do would cater to the strength of the evo, which is exactly what magazines like motor trend, road and track, etc. do. Who cares what a magazine thinks of our car, much less some uninformed snotty yuppies. All the cars in the test are great cars, but for less than half the price, or even 1/10 the price, you can get a car with similar performance numbers. Seems someone is pissed they spent enough money to buy a house on a car, and want to justify it. Just my 2 cents

I think the confusion between a supercar and an exotic lies here...

An exotic car is defined by the make, not the model. Ferrari is an exotic, Lambo is an exotic, Porsche is an exotic. Any car made under these makes is going to be labeled as an exotic because it is part of that family. Acura is not an exotic, therefore, anything they make really can't be labeled as such. Same with Dodge--which is why the Viper is not considered to be an exotic. Exotic has to do with the quality, price, and build number that the MAKER puts out each year.

Now a supercar has to do with the model, not the make. I am not sure what puts a car into this class other than peformance (price should not be an issues in designating something a supercar). I do not think there is a drawn line as to what a car needs to be deemed a supercar. I would just say any car that outperforms 95% of all other cars on the road would be considered a supercar -- the top 5%.

It's bizarre but when I first saw the EVO in mags I thought it was butt myself. Then I saw the thing in person and the rest is history. I NEVER thought I'd be associated w/ any car even remotely thought of as "rice rocket" although I admit that's what a lot of other people may think. I used to look at only M3/S4's as far as what I thought I'd be buying as well. Those same people who diss the EVO are the same ones who stare at it and want to race big time on the streets. I actually have always thought the Porsche body looked like a turtle but I certainly respect their performance and heritage in terms of design -- that is analogous to what this EVO is doing now: building and passing on performance and heritage (wing and all).

Again, the aggressive and muscular styling and the ferociousness of performance, in REAL LIFE, is why we have this car. Just stop and think what people are even thinking of comparing this car (or the FQ300) to: Lamborghini's, Ferrari's, Porsches, Corvettes, M3/S4's...and what it's actually beat! Guys, I could afford most of those cars (ok, not all of them), but driving the EVO makes me feel just way smarter -- I can slice and dice all day, and NOT be afraid of getting this thing dirty!! We are lucky, man.

If "Luxury" is an essential ingredient in the making of an "Exotic" car, then the Ferrari F40 is NOT an Exotic car !!

Exactly...If recall correct i think you have to reach into the doorframe and pull the exposed cable to open the doors in the F40....that is not what people would consider Luxury

The point many people seem to miss is that on a track an EVO can come close to or beat a car like an NSX. But 6 months later when the lake effect snow flies here, the NSX becomes a "pure aluminum" paperweight. So for 1/3 the price I get a car that can easily outperform an NSX with minor mods, and it isn't the fair weather princess the NSX is.

Someone mentioned the Type-R NSX, and I believe that was never offered for sale here in the U.S. The regular NSX was not built as a track car, as witnessed by all of the luxury amenities included.

When the NSX was first introduced at something like $50k, it was a great value. I don't see $40k in upgrades on the new ones.
