Any advice on removing this part? (pics)

Alright well I want to take the shifter arm off my car, but upon closer inspection it appears it might be a little more complicated then I thought.

Anyone here remove this arm before, if so any do's or don't? From what I can see I just disconnect the shifter cables and unbolt the unit from the tranny.

Here are pics of exactly what I'm talking about. (brass colored arm is what I want to take off not the battery holder) Sorry I was using my phone and its hard to get upclose without getting blurry but you get the idea of what I'm talking about.

thanks!

I have reason to believe its cracked and want to take it to the dealership to get it replaced. I tried describing it to them and they still didn't know what in the world I was talking about.

I tried showing the guy while I was there but when you have the battery and everything else in you can't even see it, and I don't feel like paying the dealership to work on my car who I already don't trust.

Actually I'm talking about the arm that sits ontop of part number 15. (above the black rubber guard)

Ak is correct. The arm youwish to remove is part of the shift control mechanism. It is a single unit(just rebuilt a tranny for one of my boss's race evos).

It's not difficult if the tranny is out of the car. Not too sure how hard it is with it in. You have about 3 bolts and it slides out. It is one assembly.

Theres actually 5 bolts holding that in I'm pretty sure unless 2 of those bolts weren't holding that particular part in.

I have a good amount of space to work with, easily could get all 5 bolts out with no problem. The unit could come straight up about 10 inches before it would hit the strut bar. Thats a rough estimate going off my memory.

I don't have to worry about lining anything up right? I saw in that diagram theres a return to neutral spring at the bottom of the unit, I won't have to mess with that will I?

thanks

I believe you just have to keep #16 on its' shaft while putting it back together. From my memory, #13 definitely has to come out to slide the shaft out..took mine apart about 3 months ago.

Interesting, I wonder if gravity will pull #16 off the pin when putting it back down into the tranny or not?

Anyway thanks for the advice man, doesn't sound too bad.
