Hi guys, i am thinking of doing one of the following to make my aftermarket exhaust sounds louder (but not outrageously loud):

(a) replace the mid-pipe (ie. between cat and muffler) with a 3-inch straight-through pipe.

(b) remove the silencer.

Which option should i choose? Note that I will prefer to retain the stock cat (looking at sound rather than performance).

fyi, i am running Trust Power Extreme II exhaust with HKS downpipe.

ditching the silencer will make it louder(if you want just pick up a resonated test pipe loud but not as loud if it were straight through design)... just remember if you get pulled over and they check your exhaust you're ****ed so dont complain if it happens

 

removing the cat will make it louder at WOT and makes you sound more like a v8 car.

 

My buddy just did a downpipe...removed the resonator...and installed bushurs muffler delete on his and it sounds beastly lol not a bad setup

This thread is kinda silly IMO.

But if I wanted an ungodly loud Evo, I'd call Buschur and get their catless TBE with the race or bullet muffler. I think most everyone else will agree with me that it is the loudest 3" exhaust out there.

You're really not going to be very loud if you keep the stock cat. I think you'll surprise yourself how loud the car is with a test pipe. I know HKS catbacks taper down below 3", but do their downpipes?
