Does modding...

make you happy?

After spending money on your car, what do you get from it?

I've built numerous cars over the years and have spent a few college funds building badass cars.

What do you gain for it? Social status? Showing off to friends? Is it an addiction?

Count up the amount of money you spent? What could you do with that amount of money today if you could get it all back?

I love cars, it has to be the greatest hobby in the world. It's not an addiction, it's more of a fascination. I don't play hockey so my freinds will think I'm cool haha I don't go to school either just because people will think of me as a kid trying to go to the next level, I just simply think college is the best route lol. I love the feeling of being tossed into your seat and I love the feeling I get when I drive down the road thinking to myself that I own a great machine with a lot of history and I'm building it my own unique way with a few pointers down the line. I have goals too. I want to get into track racing, I want to be decent at it. Although I could never dedicate my life to it because things such as school, then my future career, starting a family someday (no time soon, im only 21 haha) and buying a house and just simply becoming established are way more important. I wait for an opportunity where I know I will be in no financial difficulties before I mod my car.

My car doesn't have a single cosmetic mod MINUS the giant shocker sticker haha now thats a joke between me and my freinds only. I dont have any cosmetic mods to prove a point or anything.. just saying the car community has such a diverse group of people and Id be willing to say 80% just want the oo's and ahh's which ISNT a bad thing.

EDIT: Also, If I EVER needed a car to get me laid, get freinds etc..... I'd drive my car off a cliff with me in it haha cause that's a lil pathetic and I don't think ANYONE will admit to owning or modding a car for that reason. Actually, to be honest... I keep my car hobby to myself when I meet people. They say nice car and I say thanks.. if they have any questions I answer, otherwise we talk about important things lol

True, but when you drop 10K-50K on a car when does "style" become obsession?

I know a lot of people that race every week. If they lose a race, they dump more money in the car to go faster. They end up racing someone faster a week later and once again they dump more money in the car. It's a painful never ending cycle.

Honestly, there is something about modding that lets you be as different as you want to be and I like that. But really I just like to go fast

Even if it is an obsession, atleast its fun, clean obsession. You could spend $10k-50k on ****

definitely an obsession. its nice for the first few drives when u get ur new mod on and feel the difference, but once u get used to it the newness wears off and u want something else. i must have gone thru about 6k worth of parts/labor on my srt from constantly swapping stuff. even tho it does get addicting, i plan on never letting myself spend that much on a car again

i was talking about this topic with my friend today.
The money i have spent on my cars has been ridiculous. i know alot of us guys on here with wives/ gF or still living with parents had to hide some of the parts that they put on the car.

My Fiancee doesnt know 80% of what i put on my TT 300zx not alone the evo. sshe gets in n ask if thats new n i tell her "its been there all the time u jus didnt notice it".

but it has kept me out of trouble, i have never done any cosmetic mods to any of my cars, n i have never relied on it to get a laid.
its a hobby but its on the brink of an addiction. the money i spent on gettin my cars then modding them then fixin it wen somthing breaks especially the nissan, if i ever get that money back honestly ill buy 2 houses, but knowing ill probably get a ferrari f430

I believe that its a hobby, I love modding my car as much as possible and when I buy something new the price really doesnt affect me, I dont know I guess I'm weird. I know I have spent over 10k in mods for the car I have now.

Exactly.

I think for me it is an obsession. But it's better than blowing money on gambling, drugs, alcohol, ect.

Ive always been into cars so it just makes sense for me. I enjoy modding my car to make it my own. I feel as if im driving someone elses car otherwise.

I was thinking about the money that ive put into my truck. I could have bought a new used truck for the same price. but all i would have is a stock truck. I wanted to have a custom truck and since it was also my first vehicle it had personal value to me.

The lancer is my daily driver so its always going to be more stock than the truck will ever be.

If the money hadn't went into the car and the truck then i prolly would have just spent it on useless junk.

Summery: I want a vehicle to be unique to me and i want to enjoy driving and looking at it.
