About Oils and Oil pressure that is too high?

I've been reading a lot about oil pressure and how it is not supposed to go low...but my questions is, is there a point where oil pressure is too high? since I got the car last year and installed an oil pressure gauge my idle has been consistently 2 BAR (about 28 psi) when the car is warmed up...normal driving, it will stay around 6 BAR and during part accel, I get over 7 BAR (100psi).

I used Liquimoly 10w 60 at that time...had some issues with oil temps (up to 140C doing my second hot lap on track) so I got an oil cooler...weird thing was, after the oil cooler, the oil pressure started playing around at idle between .9BAR to 2BAR...but when the oil warmed out, it stayed at 2BAR.

Changed to Royal Purple 5w30...and it is what I use now...idles at 2 BAR and goes up to over 7BAR when revving the car.

Some info about these oils....

Checked RP website for the 5w30 I am using...

Viscosity Index = 152
at 100C = 10.6

Mobile 1 5w 30 (recommended for Lancer EVO in USA)

VI = 169
at 100C 11.3

anyway, still at a point where I am not sure which oil is best for my car...and if the oil pres is normal or not.

I don't have an oil pressure but I have a oil temp gauge. Mine reads 180 degree on a hard pull. I plug my sensor on the hole in the pic below. Is that a wrong location?

That's the pressure sensor in the image. It'll come with the oil pressure gauge and that's the most common place to put it. Or you can get the sandwich adapter (which is what I purchased) from prosport gauges.

I read 10PSI at idle after the oil is at operating temp of 180F
100PSI at load above 3000RPMs.

I use Mobile 1 Synthetic 10w30.

Hey exacc, sorry if I kindda jacked your thread. But I got a question concerning engine oil used in USA. You mention it's recommended 5W30 in USA. I thought I read in the manual and it recommend 10W30. Am I missing something? I know that the lower the first number, the thinner the oil is... so isn't it better to run thinner in the summer and thicker oil in the winter? Just curious. Thanks and hope you don't mind about my first post to your thread.

Eventhough it's a common place to put the pressure sensor, can it be used for the temp sensor? I have mine set there and it reads 180 deg on full boost from 3K rpm to redline.

Yeah that's a normal place for either or I think. On an MR the stock oil temp gauge is actually built into the oil drain plug which is at the bottom of the oil pan (obviously) I think it's all the same. I would recommend getting the sandwich adapter for anyone doing a new install... it makes an install really easy and enables you to plug more than one sensor in.

As far as oil you want thicker in the summer because the hotter oil gets the thinner. So 10w30 in the summer and 5w30 in the winter would be right. I run 10w30 all the time as I live in Texas now but used to do 5w30 when I lived in MN.
