Quick question about cams
Go get the current issue of TURBO magazine.
AMS is doing an indepth multi issue cam test on an VIII.
So far, they've tested HKS, Crane and Tomei cams, with more coming in future issues.
HKS scored the lowest so far, in the test..
Go check it out..
Granted: the OP has a IX, but it'll give others an idea..
If you have a IX, go with GSC or Cosworth, period.. but what do i know. lol..
I have GSC S1's and love em.. I gained 40+ whp from them and a new tune, last year..

get the cosi's there the bomb, and why would you get cam gears on the 9 you have variable valve timing on the intake cam...so that means you can only rock 1 to begin with and what your gunn tune the exhaust side i wouldnt i leave the stock gears and get cosi's...my friends pulls forever i love it, i have an 8 so im getting hks probly but for the 9s get cosi's
Why would the HKS cams suck(I have the Cos ? Do they have less duration than the Cos'?
FWIW, get adjustable sprockets with whatever cams you get. You pretty much need 'em to adjust your cam timing.

Check out the FP 4Rs from Forced Performance.
Here is a quote from their site:
"One could almost get away with calling the factory EVO9 camshafts "HKS 272 copies" with some minor changes. They are pretty stout cams relative to early DSM stock camshafts. We see no point in offering camshafts for the EVO9 that make a very slight incremental changes in duration and lift. We feel there are more gains to be had through MIVEC tuning than putting expensive camshafts in that are only slightly larger than the factory cams. Thus we are only offering two grinds for the EVO9, large and Xtra large - The FP4R and FP5R. The FP4R as a stock replacement that is 100% drop in compatible, and the FP5R for larger power output "built" engines."
I just installed the FP 4Rs in my IX and love them. I'll have dyno before and after results soon.
