The springs and retainers are not really neccessary, but it is advised since you are pulling the cams out. Plus you will be able to rev the car a little higher without worrying about valve float.

yes put the cams and gears in and set the gears to 0 degrees(assuming your at TDC) then have a shop tune it to perfection.

cosworth m2s no you do not require upgraded vs or retainers. the oem ones are good for up to 8k rpm.

however, for the m3, cosworth recommends upgrading your vs.
