thats not really the point. Any car, let alone a 30+k car, should be able to see some rain without major failures.
Not to mention this "hard soldering" that everyone keeps talking about isn't a failsafe for this problem....especially if there is already corrosion there.
With how many people this is happening to, it should be a recall. Imagine if this car was as mass produced as say, a Civic......and that all of them were daily drivers.......how many more cases of this do you think there would be? Its a MAJOR problem. Dealer quotes for $3k + to replace the harnesses? thats a big deal for pretty much anyone.

haha its cool man....
well, if you get to it before any corrosion has set in you might be able to prevent it. But I don't see any way to really completely seal it up so probably still at risk
And if there is already some corrosion, you're pretty much gonna have to get the harness replaced......getting in there and cleaning and soldering the connections will only delay the failure.

i guess not all evos are effected by this.... cause i checked mine out today (late 2005 VIII) since i heard we were going to get rocked by the weather tonight and it's totally sealed up.
neither i nor the original owner ever did anything to it (i knew him.)

Hard Soldering will 100% fix it forever. If the wires were straight through in the first place instead of in a connector junction (which I understand that mitsu does this to separate the interior from exterior harnesses and make it more modular).
Anyway if the wire was one the water would just run down the rubber insulator and onto the rug. The reason for the shorting is that the water finds the connector pins and well
water + metal + electricity = FTL
So simply cut the wire back to where you see no corrosion (its not gonna be far at all trust me) hard solder, and shrink tube it up. 100% no more issue 4 sure
Just Seal The Grommet = No More Water In From The Fenderwell

If you remove all the corroded parts and completely seal it up, it should probably last the life of the car. If there is any corrosion or moisture in any of the lines you will have trouble again down the road.
Water + metal = FTL....don't even need to add electricity to the mix to mess things up. Electrical signal over a corroded line = really F'd up results.

im bumping the thread cuz i get pm's about it every day and i dont want anyone else to have to go through the crap i did.
thanks for the concern though, it really doesnt matter why i bump it. if its helping other people find this problem im gunna keep bumping it. only 3000 people have seen the thread meaning not everyone has seen it yet. so....

Holysh t.....that is such a pain in the ****. i had my srs light on. my headlight wouldnt work when it rained and my wippers had a mind of their own. i ended up cutting the harness out and sodering all of the wires. fixed the problem but it is very time consuming...there is not any slack on the wires making it the most frustrating fix i have ever delt with
