Hey man, I wasn't trying to yell at you. I hope you didn't take it that way. I'm all for having another Evo owner on the boards! It's just that when you buy a project like that, you will get buried in all the details and crap associated with getting it roadworthy when you should be enjoying it on the road and track.....And you have to deal with the crap waay before you ever get to enjoy the car at all. And once you get to drive it, you will always have that worry in the back of your mind about whether it is reliable....is it safe...etc.

If you take the $15k you have in cash and bring it to a dealership (one that is not on the boycott list at the top of this board), they will be quite happy to put you behind the wheel of a brand new car....one with a warranty....one that has only been abused by you...one that hasn't had a majority of it's parts replaced or glued back together.

The old saying about a new car losing 20% of it's value is only partly true for the Evo. Any vehicle will lose some value once driven off the lot. The Evo will likely devalue slower than cars with larger production numbers. But that amount it depreciates is only of concern if you plan on selling that car within a year or two of buying it. Most people don't do that. But if you do, it simply means that you might owe a little more on your loan than you can get by selling it to a private party if you put very little down in cash at purchase time (maybe less than 5k?).

Here's how you can go buy your new Evo.

Go to eloan.com. Fill out an online quote for an auto loan for $20k. It only takes like 5 mins to fill out the loan request...and like 30mins to get your answer. Once you are approved, take your loan documentation to a dealership (that has an Evo you want on the lot), bring $10-15k in cash, go inside and ask for the sales manager, or the internet sales manager, tell him you want the Evo....and that you came prepared to buy today if you get the right price. Now he knows you are serious. If he sits you down, tell him you have your own loan arranged and have a cash deposit of $xx,xxx in your pocket...

From there on out, it's all up to your negotiating skills. But don't expect them to give by more than a few hundred bucks...and if they won't budge, try to get them to add accessories to the current price.

Good luck!

I didn't take your post as a bashing.... I could definitely see your point. I am just real hard headed when it comes to something I really want. However, I believe I am now leaning toward purchasing a new evo. I appreciate you taking the time to walk me through that process. I will be heading to eloan.com right away. It will be a bit longer before the car will see the 11's but at least I will know what I have and a warranty.

Thanks again!

Well not necessarially. Just put $10k down on the car...so you have $5k to mod with. Then if you have a warranty claim, replace a few parts back to stock.

If I were you, i wouldn't mod it just yet. Wait till you drive your evo 10k down the road then start modding it. That's how you'll appreciate the full potential of your stock evo

Good point.... and for once I would like to do staged upgrades instead of just buying a ton of go fast goodies and throwing them on. That is what I did with my GSX and it didn't seem to be as fun as it would have been going one mod at a time and seenig the improvements.

this car has a salvage title=serious damage
insurance doesnt want to repair it it must be thousands in damage. Evo is not really a strong car, frames are easily bend, also the most expensive parts are damaged and who knows what happened to the engine.
$2000 to repair, ha

Just don't buy it. You get what you pay for. That looks like you would be paying for a long time for a car that will probably never run right. Just wait and pick up a used one with no problems.

I'd be concerned over any car an insurance company totaled and the salvage yard sold as an "ez-fixer". I used to do quite a bit of curbstoning with old sports cars and that car makes me nervous.

I'd at least make sure they let you have it checked by someone you trust (not one of their biz buddies) at a seperate facility to ensure the unibody is straight. You will probably have to pay for that, but a couple hundred bucks might save you a few thousand later.

Sellers who keep ID's private usually indulge in schill bidding. Especially with car auctions.

Please read through the entire thread before replying. Wannaaevo has already decided that making this purchase is not wise.
