First of all, it is called a laptop not a labtop. Secondly, I'm not quite sure what you are asking. If you are asking if you should bring your laptop and tactrix cable with you during your tune, I would say yes. Even though your tuner should already have those items.

yes you could download the stock map if you had the cable. but even if you get it tuned before you download it im sure you could always get the stock map off someone else who has theirs saved

True but each Evo's ROM is different due to the immobilization code. You're better off download the stock ROM before taking it for a tune. The cable is $98 and you can get it shipped to you in about 4 days or so if you order it now. Good luck.

u need to get the laptop and cable then download your stock ROM and save it, then u go for your tune, after that you will be able to switch over to your stock map whenever you want
plus, having the cable and laptop even if you dont have to change back is still a good idea if you have a tuned evo, my friend has 2 evos and a lancer and we run datalogs to see how the cars running all the time. he said $100 for the cable was the best money hes ever spent

Immob code is an easy fix, the fact that there are like a million different ROM ID's is the problem I think this gentleman would face.

It's a good piece of hardware to have, like many have already stated.

It will give you the ability to archive your ROMs and also as just a code reader with the free OBD ScanTech software, it's good to have.

it also depends on who is tuning the car some tuners scramble their tunes so you won't be able to get in to your ecu anyways..

who is tuning the car?

ask who is tuning it what they do...

or else they will be charging you for every little thing you want to do..

you'll get the "bring the car in i'll do it....that'll be $350!!"

Here's a great thread about how to tune your ECU. It'll have a few links for softwares and the cable.
