stud and bolt spinning....

the bolt that goes from the manifold into the turbo. i go to take it off and i notice that the stud is spinning with it. the bolt is not stripped, the stud is loosening up as im loosening the bolt, i just stopped and tightened it back down because i do not want to break my stud

so my question is, how can i keep the stud from spinning? i need to get this bolt off to put my manifold on. i was thinking heat the bolt, since that would expand the bolt and should loosen it off the stud. anyone have any other ideas?

It will probably just come off like a bolt.. Remove it and replace it like a bolt.

I understand what you are saying....... but a stud is threaded on BOTH ends. If the nut sticks to the stud but the stud is un-threading from the turbo... pull it out just like a bolt

Gotcha... from your first post, it sounded like you implied it was un-threading fine.

PB Blaster and some heat... Use anti seize when you put those back on.

sorry about that man,
but yea i feel like i might snap it, so ill try some heat on it tomorrow

i hear you on that anti-seize, when i had all my manifold bolts off tonight, i made sure to use anti-seize putting them back on, so i dont run into this problem when i work on it tomorrow.

thanks for the help

Chances are that the stud, as stated, is backing out. Not an uncommon event. Take it all out, put vice grips on the bare part of the stud (be careful, use a rag) or put it in a vise, then take the nut off. After that, put it back in handtight or use a stud installer, then put it back in.

If you are takin the manifold off, you can lock two nuts onto the outside of the stud and install it that way. You tighten the nuts against each other, then use a wrench to put it on, don't tighten the stud too much...use the green super permanent loctite on it.

Listen to EVO Joe and use antisieze. When it comes to high temp stuff, use copper.

Try the PB as stated above. If you are afraid the nut is locked on the stud, buy a nut splitter and remove the nut so the stud isn't damaged!

Oh and forget my comment on the green loctite, I was thinking you were working on the intake manifold.

As a side not, studs normally do not come out easy, they give resistance all the way. It likely would not loosen up instantly and be finger tight like a bolt is.

Auto zone, etc store. They are cheap in the tool section. It is a handy tool to keep around, just make sure to get yourself another nut! Maybe someone will chime in and verify M10x1.25 as the proper size.
It will look similar to this.
