question ne3d help
hey guys, i have a question. i bought a car that comes with an aftermarket exhaust header which i thought it was stock.. after couple of months the engine light came on.. i brought it to an mitsu dealer they said the problem came from the aftermarket header.. and i cant use my warranty on it cuz the header is aftermarket. i dont know what to do... should i bring my car back to the dealer where i bought it from and tell them to fix it? and do you think they will help me?
yeah i would bring it back to the origanal dealer i just bought my car and it came wiht an aftermarket exhaust and they told me it was stock and i found out after i got home and did some research... idiots!
This is what I was going to say. You don't know for a fact that the CEL was caused by the exhaust manifold. Take it to any number of auto parts store that will read the code for free and then post back here what the code was. There is a wealth of knowledge on this site that is more than willing to help you out; just let us know.
hey guys i got it checked.. code po420 or p0420? i dunno if this is the code though.. cat. converter failed? plus all my acd lights all stays on sometimes after 2-5 mins after i started the car =(
cat. converter failed
and
pump failure
is it ok or safe to drive? will i make it worst if i continue driving it?

I would definitely take it back where u bought it from!
I would also think that if u had a test pipe/HFC, that would be the culprit... not a header... ***in dealerships... If the guy had any sense at all he would have at least blamed it on the exhaust! Anything they see not stock, thats it, right there, VOID WARRANTY!
You can also get a Creader to fix the cell.

as for all of the acd lights being on make sure there isnt any water getting in through the grommet by the driver side kick plate shorting out the wiring harness. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ight=srs+light
did you get a second code for pump failure???
i dont know if i have a test pipe or HFC i dont have the second code i just see pump failure on the paper.. but im bring my car back to the dealer where i got my car from(lexus) on tuesday and see what they can do.. my concern is it ok i drive it for a couple of days? i needed it to go to work..
question is there anything "I" can do right now?
many thanks

How is the driveability? Does it drive normal or is there hesitation or stalling? If it seems like it is driving normal then you should be able to do some short driving in it. If you are getting the cat converter failure code I would look at your exhaust system to see if you have a test pipe or HFC. Both of those can cause that code. Lucky for you if that is the culprit then it is an easy fix and doesn't cause any major ill effects. If you are getting a pump failure it might be time to upgrade to a Walbro even though you already have a IX. It's better to be safe than sorry.
A P0420 code is a catalytic converter inefficiency code. It is very common and just means that the computer thinks (based on o2 sensor readings) that the converter is not functioning properly. This could be because you have a high flow cat or test pipe. I have even seen this on a completely stock car before. The easiest way to deal with it is to buy a pack of 2 spark plug anti foulers. Drill one out with a 1/2" drill bit. Screw your rear o2 sensor into the drilled out anti fouler, screw that antifouler into the other, and then screw the whole assembly back into the exhaust's o2 bung. This will slow the airflow accross the sensor to simulate a properly working cat and keep the light out. This has worked every time I have tried it on every car I've tried it on. Also, you can absolutely drive the car just fine with this code stored in the computer, it is not a harmful situation in the least.
It is not difficult in the least. If you can screw in a light bulb then you can attach the antifouler. A Walbro is a type of fuel pump. Do a seach on this site and you will find out what I mean. Unless you plan on paying somebody to work on your car every time you want something done to it then I would advise you to read the How-to section and invest in some tools. It will save you time and money. Unless of course money isn't an option for you.
