Why stop at 2K? Shifting at idle is where it's at!

By replacing our gasoline-hungry turbocharged engines with organically driven propulsion devices, the cost of fuel is automatically reduced to a few sunflower seeds.

come on guys and be mature here. All the guy did was ask about mileage. He may not ( as I did not ) know that gas would get this bad this fast. Saying to just buy a hybrid or that he bought and Evo what does he expect is really stupid. Anyone of us would like to get get 2 mpg more. Don't act like jackasses.

how do you deal with shifting at 2k. Its impossible for me to do that without getting yelled and honked at by everyone behind me. Car just doesn't pick up speed quick enough when I try shifting that low.

Stay at 55 on the highway, avoid stop and go traffic or any complete stops (as in time the lights if possible, not like run a stop sign) and get tuned for lean cruise, like 16 afr.

Then there are crazy things that you can do:
Like if you don't care about safety or your windshield you can draft real close behind semis.
Or get small mirrors and tape up all the seams and unnecessary vents and openings in the front of the car.

Or go yet another step further and do the ultimate NA Evo mod!!! It actually drives kinda like a civic this way:

yes you can force the car to cruise in open loop at run leaner fuel mixture but i thought that was a tad advanced for this thread. And that is usually something specifically asked for and not included in a majority of tunes.

If you have a programmable wideband like the LC-1 or Zietronix you can use that to control your afr.....I have my LC-1 run to my front O2 and set the signal at 15.5 so I cruise at that level. I also added timing in the low load/mid rpm levels to help with throttle response and drive-ability and so far I have gotten the best of 26.9 mpg with a mix of city/highway/country roads. Plus I live in PA which is hills and mts. so I cant imagine what I could do on a flat highway - 30mpg might not be out of the question.

326 miles on 12.1 gallons of fuel

Plus I have my closed/open loop crossover set higher so I can hit like 5 psi and still be in closed loop to help with dd (keeping the car at 0 or less is hard on hills and such).

Nobody ever thinks to tune part throttle stuff and I have spent a lot of time just on part throttle and its paying off with increased fuel economy and honestly the car is driving better than it ever did stock.

Haha, well to be fair, I shift at 1st: 2.5k, 2nd:2k, 3rd:2k, 4th:2k, 5th:2.5k. Oh, and since i got a ticket ive been doing 55 on the highway, thats where i usually get honked at... by cars, semis, school busses, and pretty much everyone else using it. Who set that speed limit intra-city anyways??!
