Don't drive like an idiot with your lead foot treating your gas pedal like an on/off switch.

A retune will help with all the above due to the overly rich condition the Evo (any factory turbo car) has.

Stay out of boost will help alot too.

getting a tune can improve your mpg but most likely any little increase in mpg will be wasted when you let it rip with the additional power gains you got But seriously, just drive normally. I know thats a hard thing to do when its an evo we are driving around but just try and stay out of boost and keep it down on the highway. The biggest thing I've noticed is I used to go 75-80 on the highway but now I rarely go over 65 and that has certainly added extra miles to the tank.

Want better gas mileage? Dont drive an Evo.

No offense, but if you can afford an MR, you can afford gas

Definetely get a tune. I was holding out on geting one since I know it screws the warranty but I'd rather get better gas mileage. As stated above it helps to drop speed on the freeway too. I used to do 75-80 all the time and now I do about 65-70 and it has helped.

If all else fails you can always remove the wastegate.

some of us work hard to pay the monthly car bill thank you! to those of us who barley get by making car payments +others, paying 4.50 (soon to be in texas) for premium, can be quite a hurtin'

Either stay off the gas (which makes owning the Evo pointless) or buy something that gets good gas mileage for all your major driving... Like a scooter!

Fireman/Construction means my monthly is hard to come by as well i own an Evo 8 GSR and not an MR for a reason, and that reason is so i don't need to ask how to afford gas

p.s. Louisiana is not far behind on the Prices

Untuned with a TBE, MBC, and intake I got 26 MPG on my road trip to TN. That's 80% highway and 20% around town with a few hard pulls. I thought I did my math wrong, but I had over 300 miles on the tank with some gas left.

I drove 70-75 MPH, but the key is staying out of boost. Accelerate slowly and try to keep it in vacuum as much as possible. Boost gauge is my favourite economy mod, as I can monitor what's going on under the hood much better. Sometimes you'll be boosting and not even know it. Freakin' quick spooling 16G.

I agree with watching the boost gauge, Its interesting how sensitive the throttle is to pressure, it leaves vacuum very quickly.

The ECU can be tuned to lean out the AFR's

Check the ECUFlash forums you can actually tune the stock ECU to run in open loop sooner and adjust the AFR's so it actually runs a bit leaner while cruise driving

John Bradley has played around quite a bit with this and since adjusting my maps with his findings I have seen a little better gas milage

I found that my tune actually gave me about 75 miles extra on a full tank of gas, almost up to 300 miles on a full tank before the light comes on.

Also just try and stay out of boost...3k rpm shifts help.
