A whole world of problems

Ok, I have been having more problems than my evo seems to be worth. Anyone want to help me diagnose?

1. Car will ocasionally stall while driving down the road whenever I put it into neutral. (tune??)

2. There is a whining that sounds like it is coming from under the back seat that will sometimes get louder as the rpm's rise. (exhaust leak??)

3. The boost gauge will fall completely to the mitsu sign when i'm cruising down the freeway and let off the gas. When sitting in gear it will sit at -30 (not sure if that's where it's supposed to be or not) (possible exhaust leak??)

4. Car is absurdly slow and boost doesn't come on as hard as it used to, i constantly run horrid times at the track even though I have decent launches. (low et's)

5. Upon start up the car will spit a little bit of black liquid and quit within a minute or so.. turbo was checked and I was told that it was fine.

Any input helps.. I will be taking my car to AMS to have everything checked out.. I would like to have some ideas of what might be wrong so they don't have to look at every single bit of my car..

Mods? Have you performed a boost leak test? Millage? Plugs? Tons of stuff could be going on

I would gues in order of checking

Plugs (which could cause the sputtering)

Boost leak (which would cause the black smoke and enrichment)

Fuel pump (could be on its way out and your not getting the pressure you should)

Maybe Knock sensor (sensor not working properly)

Best bet is to let AMS diagnose the car 1st hand.. the whine is probably the tcase even though it sounds like its under the back seat.. exhaust leaks dont whine..

i would say the nosie yours hearing from under your backseat is your fuel bump. If you have a Walbro 255 then im almost posivite thats what your hearing. I have been told that during the summertime they make alot more noise then normal.

1) Happens sometimes with the cone filters I had to tweak the smoothing map on mine just a little bit to stop a lean spot your cause can be different.

2) Sounds like the fuel pump to me the 255lph walbro's have tendencies to do it

3) I'm thinking your boost gauge is messed up probably because -30 is way too much vacuum to be normal more like -18 or so with stock cams at idle in gear.

4) The tune could be off or your running really rich for some reason like a big boost leak.

5) I assume by black liquid you mean condensation out the tail pipe this could be normal for your area and relative humidity.

What kind of BOV do you have, because if you have a BOV get rid of it unless you have a recirc kit on it. Evo's arent ment to be VTA unless your setup ios different from stock turbo. Besides that your tune might need a little smoothing as mentioned before.

I presently have my back seat out from doing a meth kit install and the walbro cant be heard over the exhaust, if you can hear the whine over the exhaust and it gets louder during acceleration or when you keep a constant pedal to maintain speed then it is what Mike@AWD said... probably your T Case.

Also you said it yourself "i constantly run horrid times at the track even though I have decent launches" so I wouldnt be surprised if yout T Case is going Bye bye...

Dont know about this one again might have something to do with wether or not you are VTA'ing

You might be used to the speed of the car since your tune, everyone said the same thing to me when I said it doesnt feel as fast.... But then again you are basically admitting that you have beat the living crap out of your car.

Probably just condensation mixing with the carbon build up beign spit out by the exhaust fumes when you start it since when you start your car from a cold start it runs at a higher rpm....

AMS will more than likely figure it out, hope this helps

I don't think it could be my transfer case.. the car only has 8500 miles on it and it will make the noise while the car is in neutral stopped with the parking break on.. so if nothing in the drivetrain is moving then how would it make the sound??

Anyone agree?? Sorry to keep bringin it up. The last thing I want to have on my mind is having to dish out the $$$ for a new transfer case. I have spent more on my car since I bought it like 6 months ago than I have on myself in my entire life...

^ If it happens when you are stopped then your walbro (if you have one) is retardedly loud.... can you hear the same noise more pronounced from out side the car by the passanger door on the drivers side?
