Evo owners who have had rust under the wing, I need your help!

We here at CBRD need the Evo community's help regarding a warranty issue (big surprise) regarding the corrosion warranty.

We have a 2004 Evo VIII here and it has the two major spots of rust where the inner corner of the wing base contacts the trunk-lid and wears the paint off.. obviously then allowing the steel to rust. They are claiming that since the fender was repainted (earlier in the car's life), the "wing must've shifted cracking the paint and causing the rust". I say that it is obviously a known issue. One thing to note also, the EVO IX's wing has a different adhesive/felt tape pattern protecting the spot where the VIII's rusted.

What I need from you is anyone who has had this issue to help me out. We need Mitsubishi to stand up and rectify this known issue. If you have this issue, whether or not you had a claim honored or denied, I need your VIN and the history of the claim so I can present it to our Regional Mitsubishi Representative. You obviously don't have to post your info in this thread, but rather may PM it to me.

Thanks! I look forward to having this rectified.

I have had the issue since really early on...

I never filed a warranty claim for it, though...I've been touching it up/sealing it all along.

I'd be happy to give you photographic evidence if you like...I don't think I have ever seen an VIII without this problem.

A lot of people are very quick to advertise the search function and not offer any real help unfortunatly.

+1 I had hail damage too so I bought a cf trunk.

I still have the stock trunk though.

Edit: I just re-read the thread. I will post pics and VIN info soon.

This is a bummer about the spoilers causing the rust.

I had the rust under my wing so I bought an '06 trunk. Now I have the '05 trunk to fix up and make wingless ;-)

I don't believe there's a recall...

But it's a rediculous problem and Mitsubishi needs to stand behind their product!

Mitsu doesn't want to fix anything. Good luck. Probably cheaper and less of a PITA to just take it to a body shop. Have you tried getting an estimate?

I have a great body shop that we use.. Bodywerks toward Harrisburg off of 83.. but that's not the point. I have real issues with people, or companies not doing what's right. It's not neccesarily about what's easiest....

my $.02 I spose.

DIAF before posting.

I'll talk to some 8 owners out here and see if they got the issue.
