Remove wing = WTF

ok i got a HUGE problem. This weekend i thought about taking the wing off my evo. well first off it isn't easy to get off and secondly i wasn't very happy of my find. i noticed a little yellow on my trunk and when i looked closer i have a rusting spot the size of a 50 cent piece under my wing. is this something that would be covered under the warrenty? is this the best excuse i can use to get a carbon trunk? what should i do? advice please.

i will try and get pics up by thursday.

thanks,
STevo

Thats going to be pretty hard to prove that it was a factory defect unless the tape lines clearly let water and dirt etc get under the wing and cause the rust spot. They will probably also give you one hell of a time about taking off the wing in the first place just because its Mitsu.

PWNED by oxidation. LOL.

On a more serious note, in order to stop the rust, that area will have to be sanded, primered, and resprayed. If it's as large as a half dollar, then look on the bright side. You found it early enough before it ate through completely.

And no, Mitsubishi will not warranty corrosion unless its perforated the steel.

on a side note i didn't take the wing off. when i was working on getting it off is when i noticed the spot. now saying that it looks inline with the mounting hole for the wing. just the edge of the rust is visible at the edge of the wing. like i said i will get a picture up by thursday.

Hmm, I am having the same problem, I can see the rust and my wing is on, which means it's pretty bad, huh? I only have powertrain warranty left though, would they still cover it?

Quite honestly, the warranty states (at least in US and PR) 5 years or 60,000 miles bumper to bumper.

Quite honestly, dealers do not stand for that for a lot of reasons outside the scope of this thread. However, due diligence and let the dealer decide thru a job order if it is under warranty or not.

If you are not.... then call or write here:

I am having my lawyer writing a little note to Mitsu for a calipers issue! A big pain, but I will not give up.

Is this a common problem on certain years? Or is it prone to happen regardless? Any ideas on the cause of it?
