Sound like a decent deal from a used car lot?
Found a 2003 Apex Silver with 39k on the clock about 2 hours from where I live. Originally they wanted 21,900. I've gotten them down to 19,900, including a mechanical inspection from a mitsu dealership. I might be able to bargain a little more, but not enough to make a huge difference.
The car has had 3 owners already, reverse gear was replaced under warranty, car was hit in the front fender and repaired, thus the passenger airbag has been replaced. The car still has a clear title. Also, it was modified at one point, then returned to stock, minus '06 wheels. Although all 4 wheels have minor rash on them.
Called a mitsu dealership, other than the reverse gear being replaced, no other records for this car. They did have a note in the system that the car had been brought in once with no cat, no o2 sensor, aftermarket BOV, no MAF or MAP sensor and a MBC.
Part of me says I'm crazy for even considering this car, but at this point in time... I'd really like to get into this Evo.

But then again, how often can you find an un-modded Evo for and Evo that age? 39k for a 2003? I got 41k on my 2006........
Think of it this way, if its doesn't have too many major issues, and just a couple small things here and there, and is mechanically and electrically fine. (And since it checked out my Mitsubishi.) I think thats a good deal.
Just think of it as a project car. (As long as there arent any MAJOR issues with it.)

Well there was nothing on file with mitsubishi since the last time it was for service with them.
As it sits right now, it has not been looked over by a tech. So I have no idea about the fluids, compression, etc. The used car lot said they'd pay to have it done, but I'm weary about how legit that would be. They said they'd have me sign a bill of sale, pending everything checks out with Mitsu.

Most dealers will give you a thirty day warranty. Buy it as I did and take it to your local shop and have them check the car top to bottom. They will tell you whether you should take the car back. My inspection passed but I was prepared to return it if they told me otherwise. Good Luck!

Ok, so 2 things -
1. It wouldn't be unusual for me to ask to take the car myself to a mitsubishi dealer and have them look at it?
And/Or
2. If I bought it and got a 30 day warranty, THEN took it to a dealership and they found something wrong, they used car lot will take the car back, and I get my money back? Or are they entitled to fix the car or what?
Oh, and I have already test drove the car and do have an understanding with the salesmen.

1) I think it would be unusual, but worth a try. If not see if you can find a good mech (that you trust) to come look at it. Try to get it on a lift to inspect everything better. Compression test if possible.
2) If you got the car and the 30 day warranty it would depend on what was written in the warranty agreement.

Evo's are expensive to own anyway, not counting questionable used ones, so if it's a stretch to buy this one I'd pass. If you have some extra money and plan on modding it yourself anyway, go ahead and see how cheap you can get it for. As far as any warranty goes I'd be surprised if it was worth anything if you needed something fixed.
