I Tivo'd it.
It is just like all the other tests. They talk up the STI and when they put them on the track the Evo wins. The Evo won on dirt and tarmac. They all said they liked driving the Evo more.

i would post it if i knew how to get the video from my vcr to my computer, but i dont think thats possible. anyways, i saw the show. the subaru has a faster speed at that emergency menouver test but only by 1mph faster. also they said that the 4.6 0-60 was impressive. they also praised the subaru for how it can pull it self out of a corner and its better interior. they called the evo interior cheap and greasy looking. overall tho, the drivers prefered the evo as it had better handling, less understeer, less power and yet it managed to keep up(and win) with the subaru, and some other things i dont remember. each driver including the rally driver(the evo won on the rally track aswell, they believe, was becasue of the evo's awesome handling) all preferred the EVO but in the end like everyone on this site has said, the drivers agreed that it comes down to personal preference.
the only thing i dont like about shows that compare cars like this is that they dont take info from people that drive the cars as well. i mean it would be great to tell them that many people have probs with the evo clutch and the STi's tranny and see what the drivers think, wheather it is an isolated issue or its a bigger problem with the car. overall the show was interesting. i guess the only solution on deciding which one to get is to rob Bill Gates and buy both

I could put it on VHS if you want, just let me know. I could bring it to Cafe RPM next week sometime. I am sure I'll be down there on some night. I also have an older Motor Trend show where they compared the Evo to the super cars. That was a great show. Could you capture and encode it if I gave it to you?
If you're going to be at Pennington Field tomorrow, I could swing by and swap a blank VHS tape for the shows from ya. I'm gonna be out at the Motorsport Ranch and maybe also the Texas Motor Speedway infield tomorrow as well. I can digitize it and get it ready for PC consumption.
Good luck at the autocross!
Good luck at the autocross!
I must have missed you at the AutoX. We were out at the ranch for a long while. Finally made it to Pennington Field around 5:00. Have to digitize it another time. Soon we might have a suspension setup that helps the rear end rotate better.
You just missed me. I left about 4:30. I'll be at the BMW event next weekend, but that's too far to drive unless, you're racing. You should come race though. It is the fastest autocross, I have ever been in.
TMS or Mineral Wells? I've spent too many years driving out to autocross events for a few minutes of seat time. I've migrated to hours of seat time without baking in the sun, heh.
Howd ya do? It looke like they were just starting the results and awards handouts when I rolled through.

Mineral Wells. I know what you mean about the lack of seat time. I just need the autocross type of practice.
The BMW events are nothing like SCCA events. Here is the info:
http://www.lscbmwcca.org/autox/
You get a parade lap, 8 runs and fun runs at the end of the day.
I did ok, i guess. I was driving way too agressively for some reason. I was trying to brake later, but I just didn't brake hard enough some times. I was hot in one corner, so after that, I just went for some fun (but not quick) runs.
I was a second faster than the modded Evo that was there. I can't wait to get my race tires and coilovers.
He was a pretty nice guy too. It was good to not be the only Evo out there.

I've been running Equipe Rapide, Maverick Porsche Club, SCCA, BMWCCA events for many years. 6 - 30 mins sessions at Texas Motor Speedway or The MotorSport Ranch for $50 is more my style these days. Plus I get to stay in a nice cool garage or club house in between heats.
As for learning car COntrol Autocross is the best place for it. Now I'm out enjoying 100+mph corners, in the slocus, heh.
Have you run any Evolution Driving Schools http://www.autocross.com/evolution/ )? If not I HIGHLY recommend those. more seat time, great instruction, complete focus on car control skills.
Gerry is running a Phase 1 Oct. 19th

I want to run some Evolution schools, but the next one isn't until October.
I really need some organized training. I tend to forget everything when I am on course. It takes me more thant he normal 4 runs to get it right. about the 6th run, I start going really fast. I just need to be able to sort it all out faster.
I know what you mean about he 100mph corners. I would like to go to those too, but they always conflict witht he autox. Next time one is on a free day, I will be there for sure.
