Surely removing the heat shield isn't a good idea, especially for daily use.... ?

IMO remove it if your car is stored safely in a garage and if you don't drive it daily. If this is your DD don't do it! There a lot of crap out there that you don't need inside your engine bay such as bird crap. LOL

As far as rain goes it should be fine as long as you are moving so that the engine heat keeps it somewhat dry. I wouldn't leave it over night when its raining...

I don't know if you've ever noticed or not, but the vents don't stop rain. They're open. Anyone that isn't blind should be able to see that.

Why wouldn't it be?

Here's what my engine bay looks like after 30K+ miles of not having the heat shield on...

Clean as a whistle. I only clean it like once a month or so.

So you've never had any problems leaving the manifold exposed? The paint on my hood faded even with the heat shield on. Only thing i'd be worried about is water getting on the manifold while its baking hot?

My manifold had the heat sheild but I have a PPI manifold now. It's Swaintech coated and has 2000* VHT on top of it.

No issues.

You will be good , but I left mine one just incase a hurricane hits while im driving

And the fact that I have a carbon fiber hood and I don't want the air pushing through there that's the real reason I have it on.

I wouldn't take off the mani shield, that makes no sense if your using an after market intake set up. as far the vents, do whatever u want.

my vent it off .....when ever it looks like its going to rain hard it goes right back on... i've been caught with the vent off in the rain it doesn't look like it hurts anything.... i think it releases heat faster...

Why do you guys think it's gonna make a difference in the rain with the vent on or off? It doesn't at all... the same amount of water is gonna get in.
