Safe to remove hood heat shield and vent?

i was looking at my evo's hood vent today and it was kind of faded to i decided to take it off and paint it back to black...would it be safe to leave it off completely? There would def. be more heat coming out of the engine and i have seen other evos like this but say in a heavy rain storm would there be a problem with water getting into the engine?..also if the heat shield under the hood is removed will it damage the paint or no?

Thx

it is perfectly safe to run without the vent on. there are tons of people who do run without one.

Nobody needs to respond to this thread after my post.

As far as the silver heat shield, that is there deflect heat (save paint). Keep it. If it is starting to peel or fade, just repaint it.

The vent, do whatever.

The vent actually is used to pull the heat out of your engine compartment..... keep it in there

I don't think this is true.

The only thing the vent does it vent heat. Rain water and other crap still can get in. Thats the only thing I don't like about it - is when it rains, water gets in my engine bay.

so rain doesn't mess up everything in the engine by having the vents off?
