True, but I think with the vent the water more or less funnels down into the engine bay rather than directly getting down poured on, like during thunderstorms. Personally, I still have it on, but I've seen it taken off too, it's a personal preference. Doesn't hurt anything otherwise I don't think so many evos would have it off.

Yeah, the vent louvers make a nice little channel for rain water coming off the corner of the McDonald's drive-through. And it really sucks when there is someone in front of and behind you.

The vent draws hot air out of the engine bay that would be stuck in there if you take it off due to outside air trying to get in. Do a search and you'll find many people sharing this thought. Leave it on

Thats exatly what I was thinking the enitre time I was reding this thread. Although the cool air rushing in might be just as effective and the hot are coming out.

It does not, the design of it would make it do so if there was some sort of airflow going from the front of the engine bay to the back but unfortunately there is none, everything is blocked off.

It's another mitsu non-functional functional part like the stock intake snorkel that direct air suction to the front but any cold clean air is blocked off by the hood/weatherstrip and make an otherwise good design pointless.

As far as living the vent on or off, it's a matter of personal preference, I don't see why removing something that does not stop water from your engine bay makes it dangerous when it rains. Those who are convince that it's actually doing something are affected by the common "boost syndrom" that makes a lot of otherwise regular individuals brainless.

Haha- this thread is now getting silly. It doesn't make a difference if it is removed or not. Mine has been out for the past year, and it still expels excees heat; as I still see heat pouring out at stoplights (like looking through a mirage, lol)

No, bird poop and rain will not affect the engine or the mani.

That's correct airflow over the vents actually creates negative pressure and actually pulls hot air out of the engine. Keep it there, let it peel of completely, it will become silver - actually looks better (that's how mine is right now)

^^^ I think this should be the end of the thread. Either way the air will always flow Hot->Cold, High->Low. On top of the fact to prevent water entry, Mits doesn't want to replace your mani and turbo under warrenty for the guy in the 90-100 degree heat beating on his evo while he parks his car and a huge down poor hits, or the guy entering the car wash, or... you get the point... Its a warrenty concern, even though it may not happen all the time as you can see many ppl have already removed it with no issues.

I would keep it in there as DD.

Of course it expels heat when you are sitting still, you don't have air moving over the hood. When moving, that air has trouble escaping because there is air rushing over the hood and trying to enter the hood, thus that hot air is trapped to a large extent compared to running the vents that do not allow air to enter from the front, but do allow air to exit from the rear of the vent. Cooling will be better if you leave it on.

I forgot to mention that I have replaced my thermostat three times because my engine overheats without the Lockheed Skunkworks designed vent - My car is wingless and badgeless too - that means it spins out over 30mph and now my car is inoperable at highway speeds because it doesn't say Lancer Evolution on it, lol.

wow....calm down dude....my car is also wingless (albeit, with a Rexpeed spoiler) and nowhere did I claim that you were a ricer, that you didn't drive an Evo, or that you don't know $hit. My basis for this is that MANY people have done their research on this and if you do a search there are countless threads on this very subject and you will find many people talking about their cars running hotter (yes, hotter) with the vent off the car. So fine, your car overheats with the vent on and works better without it on....good for you....personally, I feel you in the vast minority and if your car overheats with a stock component attached to the car, there is a bigger issue at hand.
