How about give the boy an answer? As far as drifting goes, we often drift at roundabouts and it's fun to do in a 4WD car cause your angle has to be much bigger angle than the RWDs. And no, I don't want a RWD car for drifting either and I'm not getting a 240SX.

Now on topic: I know that you will destroy the differential if you're pulling the E-brake in an STi, I don't however know what it's like with an Evo and I'd like to know aswell. The ACD disengaging if you pull the ebrake would mean that you're actually a FWD car at the point you pull the brake?

Edit: here's a link of a buddy of mine doing it for his first time in an Impreza GT http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1nzL2pgN2k and in the snow. But this can be done in the dry, usually we do it when it's wet cause destroying tires isn't our goal. But it's fun.

Good info Toxin, and I agree, don't hate on him for wanting to drift.

Not only is it fun, but it is a very fun sport and a tactical move used in rallying and drift events all the time.

To say Evo's aren't a "drift" car, that's just stupid.

They are obviously not the best car to use, but they have more than enough potential and are used for drifting all the time.

IIRC, the e-brake just causes the ACD to disengage and not the entire transfercase, so that does not mean it is FWD. It just means it will act like an open diff in the center.

Evo is always, 100% of the time (unless you swap gears) 50/50 split. Acd is just a posi-traction that is controlled by a computer.

You kids need to learn some things about AWD.

Whats more ironic is the term E for Emergency, more of a secondary function in the event that your service brakes fail. Its primary function is for parking, I know call me crazy.

In addition vehicles that use their "parking brakes" to lock the RR wheels usually are not cable implemented, they are hydraulic.

I feel if you are having understeer issues with racing, there are other countermeasures to setup your suspension to help

If it disengages the diff, why would it be hurting the TC much?

are you a pro rally driver, with a factory rally car, getting paid to race of rally courses???

dont think so, so dont try it.
anyway, rally cars are built for what they do. they have hundreds of thousands of dollars of R&D, parts, ect in them.
So all the people I know with fully-built rally cars who are amateurs and do not have factory backing and spent less than $10,000 are idiots for using the e-brake at times? Interesting, since they compete in the same events as the factory cars.

As long as the clutch is in and you dont care about flat spotting your rear tires, go for it!

Instead of using the e-brake why not learn how to use your pedals to drift?

You are an idiot. Hrmm lets see...the Evo has its roots DEEEP in the rally circuit. In fact I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that our cars were rally inspired and quite up to the task of participating in rally like conditions. You do not need to have a $200k car to have a little fun off roading do you? By your reason...you shouldn't even be driving you're own car because it wasn't FULLY BUILT to take all of your 292hp to the local starbucks and show off to a bunch of teenie boppers.

I'm so sick of single minded ****** who think they know everything.
