Isn't the VIN number only so they can make sure they give you the right part? So surely you need to find out what part you need, not give them any random 2005 VIN?

Go look up Ebay or w/e car sites for an '05 Evo and ask the seller for VIN with an excuse like so you can check the car history or w/e, I don't think anyone on this forum is going to give you their VIN just by asking.

Your F'ing nuts if you think someone is going to give you their VIN#. With that VIN you have a lot of power with it and what you can do with it.

I've run into that at some dealerships where the parts guy is from another make (FORD guy at Hall Mitsu in Newport News) these guys are very knowledable but will flatly refuse to look up parts with out a VIN because they don't want to order the wrong parts. Tell them you are modding something and they tell you to call a speed shop. Your best bet would be to find out the part number for whatever it is you need and get it that way. Also there are plenty of vendors on here that can get you OEM parts cheaper than the dealer can so check some of them out. (JNZ tuning is one that comes to mind).

I don't see why it is necessary to need a VIN to order the right part when the dealership always ask me for my year, make, and model when looking up parts?

Here is the part number for the EVO 8 head - MN155744
I have Mitsubishi CAPS loaded on my home computer.
This is a bare head. No springs or valves.

some vehicles have mid-model-year changes. knowing the VIN would allow you to determine the date of manufacture, thus ensuring the right part.

I would just tell the guy that you're willing to assume that risk

...or find another dealer.

They want the VIN to make sure they get the right part, I know because I work at a dealer. And I dont see why everyone here is so scared of giving out a VIN #. Its not like someone random cant walk up to your car and get it in 10 seconds anyway. Geeze.
