My evo got towed today...

Like the title says. I'm evo-less until at least tomorrow . This morning I got into my car, cranked it up and the starter was really slow and sounded like it was choking. I said uh-oh, possibly the starter motor or battery is about take a dump on me .

So I got to work, thought about the situation... Lunch time arrives, I get in my car and try to crank it and its a no go . Engine wont even turn. All I get is a constant rapid ticking noise (tic-tic-tic-tic-tic-tic-tic). I honestly have no clue what this could be, either battery, starter, or maybe something else. Have any of you had the same situation? What could this be?

I got it towed for free to mitsu and will find out tomorrow what the problem is.

Getting it towed was another story. I was parked in an underground parking lot so I had to push it out a good amount to a safe outside lot. This pretty much wasted almost 3 hrs of my valuable work day so I wasn't happy .

I've had the car since nov 2005, put 72k miles on it and recently installed a high power 4 chan amp . Could this be it? Maybe the amp sucked my batt dry.

Other than that the car is solid, reliable, fun as hell, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

UPDATE:

It was the battery that was dead, thanks to my stupid amp . My battery's guts were completely sucked out.

I know a few of you mentioned about the "remote wire" for the amp. I want to clarify again that I did hook up that wire correctly and it's function was working, but apparently the amp was still sucking on power even when the amp's LED lights were off. I bought this amp used for 40 bucks ($200 original value). Now I gotta buy a new one.

So one whole evening, 4 hours of wasted work time and 100 bucks later I have my evo back and working .

Oh and btw, the alternator and starter motor both tested out to be fine.

Is the battery the original? If so take the battery to autozone, pepboys, etc get them to check it-- if its ok then its probably the alternator not charging the battery. If that is the case i can probably get you an alternator with only 5000 miles on it pretty cheap, i just have to make a call. lmk. i had this same situation 6 months ago, bad cell on the battery. Amplifiers put a real strain on oem batterys. I have a few amps in my car and i upgraded to an Optima Redtop-- best you can buy. no prob since

Odds are its your battery, go down that path first as it is easiest and cheapest to rule out.

lol, come on man, did you at least try getting a push and starting a car from a roll? In either car (battery or started) your car would have started running. No need for towing and all that, come on

That thought has crossed my mind but there was no hill in sight. Maybe I should have pushed it around town till I found one

You.. towed a car... for the battery?

I've changed half my charging system in my work's parking lot before...

Haha.

Not in the EVO, though.

I would also suggest an optima battery, those things are bombproof. Did you install the amp yourself? I would check to see if the amp is staying on while the car is off, maybe the remote wire to the amp isnt the right one and the amp is constantly drawing power.

haha!, your going to get charged for a new battery from the dealer when you could have bought a optima battery for the same price. maybe? unless you have warranty.
