I love the Evo....
I love the Evo....
Working on other cars sure makes me appreciate how easy we all have it when it comes to working on the Evo...
Here is a picture of some intake tubes I am putting on a Porsche 996.

Simple right? Just remove the old turbo inlet tubes and replace with these nifty carbon fiber intake tubes...........
Scroll down

Step 7 is "Remove the transmission" LOL
Somewhere further down the instruction list is "Remove motor mounts and lower the motor.

Well.... I got everything apart and upgraded the clutch while I had the trans out. Its on its way back together finally. Not an easy job.
Evo owners and mechanics have it EASY!!!!

wow.... im just speechless... good thing the clutch at least got upgraded at the same time lol.. you should have just said that its a clutch install and you went and installed some pipes while you were there hahaha.
I believe that book time is 13 hours on trans R&R. The clutch and flywheel upgrade add a bit of time. Its a mishmash of Porsche parts that equal a light weight clutch capable of handling 700 lbs TQ. Then of course the intake tubes install.... I think the quote was 20 hours of labor.

Turn key... probably around the price of the Porsche.
For a shop where parts are at cost or sponsored, labor is much less or free, expenses are able to be written off and advertising brings in customers......... Good question.

If a professionsal mechanic from a big shop like AMS is saying what a PITA it is to work on a Porsche; that itself speaks volumes.
Coming from a 2000 Audi S4, I also see how much easier it is to work on an Evo.
Actually most Japanese cars are easy to work on except for maybe the VG30DETT (300ZX TT engine).
I guess the luxury manufacturers (namely the German ones) do not expect owners of a MB, Porsche, (insert whatever expensive German brand) to work on the car themselves instead opting to bring it to the dealer or a high-end shop.
Curious have you guys ever dynoed a 996 TT?
