Dealers allowing test drives yet?

Are the dealers allowing test drives yet, when i went to pick my white one up they did not seem to give me a problem about the test drive, then again i was a serious buyer. One of my friends actually went in the other day though, and they hassled him alot, do you guys think the dealers are still going to be so paranoid about test drives and markups??? how much longer will it last? Im just curious to see if the problem is in the Los Angeles area or everywhere else as well... The Subaru dealers are much friendlier towards the STI...

I was hassled by the dealership too, but after speaking with them for a few, they let me drive it. I can understand their position, but I want to drive a car before I start discussing a purchase.

The dealers I went to wouldn't let you drive it unless you were a serious buyer. Honestly I like the fact that the car isn't test driven by who knows how many people before I buy it.

Concord Mitsubishi. They have a white Evo with the little rear wing and sun roof. It had a little over 100 miles on it when I drove it. Basically I told the salemen I was very interested and my brother has a STi that I wanted to compare the ride to. To be honest I never took the thing over 4500 rpm. I was pretty sure I didn't want this particular car but I didn't want to beat on someone elses car either. I knew it was going to be quick, not as fast as my brothers STi but quicker than my TT and WRX. I was just very curious on how it did over bumper roads. I drove in with my '02 TT so mabey that helped too. Either way, the car was tight, not bone jarring, but tight. I am fond of tight cars though, so it doesn't bother me at all. Actually I am looking forward to taking it down to my brothers and swapping cars over different roads to feel the difference in drive and power (after it is broken in of course ). Oh, and I did buy one after thinking about it over night but a silver one with the BIG wing and sunfoof. They were pretty decent to deal with there with one exception. I still haven't got my car yet!!! This will be 2 1/2 weeks today. It was suppose to be in 1 1/2 weeks ago.

I had no problems driving the EVO's from the dealers. But I've looked at two STi's, and they would not let anyone drive them.
But the Subi dealers were all over my blue EVO. lol
Both dealers were asking 40K for the STi. They can keep them.

I think if you really want to test drive a car when you visit a dealership, you got to have some BS techniques.

BS with the salesmen. As long as you can convince the salesmen that you're a potential buyer, they will let you test drive the car.

BTW, Don't sign any paperwork before you test drive a car.

There are several Mits dealers in MA will allowed test drive.

Thanks, Anubis. I actually like the sounds of white with small sunroof and small wing. Sounds like that demo care with 100 miles on it should go at invoice.

I'll be giving them a call. Thanks again.

Premier Mitsubishi (Beaverton, Oregon) wouldn't let me test drive theirs. And I was serious, am 46 years old, and still no test drive.

If you have any connections at the dealership, you can drive one. Other than that probably a credit app at the minimum.

I was able to drive one without even asking in Georgetown. It was the most fun over on a test drive.

I went to a Subaru dealer & got very rude treatment about an STI test drive, 1st time this had ever happened to me with many cars (in fact had just come from an Acura dealer up the street where I tested an RSX-S w/no trouble). Left after about 10 minutes & went to a local Mitsu dealer where I drove an EVO, no problem. Bought a black one w/4 miles on it that day, payed a bit less than MSRP. A week later I sent an email to the Subaru place relating my experience, along with a pic of me standing next to my new Evo This place also sells Audis, Porsches & Jags. Can’t imagine who’d buy such cars from them with the treatment I got.
