Trading in IX for X? Nope
Honestly if I had a IX I wouldn't trade it in for a X but hey.....people got their differences, preferences and opinions on the X. It is a very beautiful car and it looks like it can take a good beating but I'd prefer my 4G's than the 4B11.
I've been to my "local" dealership 3 times in the past 2 months for random part pick ups or little services, and once just to check out the new MR. All three times I had the same salesmen try to get me to trade in my IX MR. He would try to sell me on the X with all this BS that isn't quite as true as he wishes it was.
For me it comes down to this; the IX is lighter, faster and better looking right out of the box. It is also easier to mod, better interior, all IX's (and prior) are standard transmissions, and best of all, they are a raw car, in a manner of speaking. I look at the X as a watered down former Evo. I can't even call it an Evo, it is simply a "EX" to me, not even a "10" because I don't believe it firmly follows the Evo tradition and matra.
So no, I will not be trading in my IX on a X. Though I am thinking about buying a 2nd IX soon. Thinking a RR RS or a EB GSR.

I think it's funny that the IX owners complain about the interior of the X, since that's a big reason a lot of people hated the IX...the crappy interior. I guess the IX looked too much like an econo-box to justify the steep price. At least the X looks nice enough to justify the price tag, in my opinion.
I guess it depends on what you want in a car. It sounds like the IX owners are pretending they want a full-on race car. They talk about the X like it's a pig, yet comparatively to other track cars, even the IX is a heavy car. My previous cars weighed between 2500-2800 lbs.
I mean really, if weight was everything, we'd all be driving elises and miatas, and the new GT-R wouldn't be dominating everything. All cars are about a tradeoff between performance and drivability.
For me it all comes down to this: the X is better looking, is built better, has more room, doesn't seem like a crap econo-box, has cheaper insurance, better safety features, handles better, and makes more power mod-for-mod.
The only real advantage the IX has over the X is in weight. (granted that's a huge advantage). But we all know the X's engine was detuned from the factory. Slap 2 grand in mods on both cars, and the minimal power advantages the IX have over the X evaporate. Now, once both cars are fully race prepped, gutted, etc, the IX's weight advantage may provide a larger benefit. (or maybe the stiffer chassis and AYC in the X will make up for it, i don't know).
Considering X's can break 300awhp with just a flash...I'd be careful about bragging about the power of the IX vs the X.
funny story, the old lady took her ix in to get some parts... she ended up leaving with a x... the stealership actually gave her $29000 for a trade in... thats with a dented/cracked front passenger fender... had other minor issues, tire wear was horrible, alignment needed, ect. the x grows on you pretty quick... once you drive it, and play a litttle its fun
we now have a IX SE and a GSR X
we now have a IX SE and a GSR X
how much was the X?
I think you need to re-look at the X's. Mod for mod they are putting down significantly more power than a IX. Hell, some companies are claiming over 80 hp on the stock car with just ecu management (z-chip). It's true they are heavier, but the frame of the X weighs almost 200 lbs more, and they claim the new chassis is 60% stiffer. Don't try to pretend that doesn't have ANY advantages.

I agree except for the fact that the X is better looking.
Yup, finding my post about it....

nope, i'm waiting to see what the numbers on the new 370z... but even then I think i'll keep my IX and get the Z as well... depending on my financial situation.. the X I just do not like, at first I sort of did, but then the more I see it, the less I like it, and the more I read about it's performance, the more i'm glad that I don't like it lol. To much electronics in it to screw up, don't want any paddle shifters.. I like my plain RS with the crank windows and manual locks.
However, you're right, insurance will probably go up in the future, once people start crashing them more.
Thanks, although insurance will always be cheaper on the x. Better crash test ratings, plus more safety features will mean it will always be cheaper. Part of the reason it's heavier than a IX is due to this.
