hey everyone, i been on here for a long time reading but never posted, but the most i have seen on a stock evo 8 motor was 621 whp, the guy only had head studs and cams. with a gt37r kit and race gas he was also boosting almost 40lbs of boost. i was very impressed.

That's impressive! How many miles/years did you have this build?

Nevermind, you said the length of time in your post. I just don't read very well.

I would be more worried about RPM than power myself but then I'm not at 500whp either. I figure if something lets go on me it will be the head gasket from a 28psi race gas tune hickup.

It can be done. I have a daily driven 500+ HP evo 8 that just turned 70k miles.
Sooner or later its going to give but for now its still pulling like new.
Its been at or over 500 HP for close to 2 years.

Chelsea 612 wheel 486 tq, c16, 3yrs ago 11.0@133 stock bottom end
My DD evo 568/470 ft lb stock bottom end 3 yrs ago.........

Both stock intake, stock head. AEM engine management..........

Since then we have tuned maybe 70+ evos with stock bottom end exceeding 500 hp. Alot on flashes too.

When we started going over 500 on the stock bottom end back then it was not commonplace at all, so funny to see how common it is now.

as much as I have wanted to go to a bigger turbo I just know I will be looking for a replacement engine in less then 20k miles.. so i figure i would save up and build a stout block/head setup and have it waiting then throw a biggun on.

I want a 600+whp DD that will last 100k miles with trips to the track every weekend

the only reason I'm doing a built shorty is because mine is my daily driver and I want to lessen the chance of failure a bit when I shoot for 600+ soon.

Its torque stress that will most likely be the culprit on a 4g63 not lasting, that or a really poor tune. As others of said 500whp is now common place
