How much hp is our stock bottom end good for?

Just curious. I am currently at about 340hp on a stock block and turbo. I just have HKS 272 cams, MBC, Buschur TBE, cat delete, Walbro, and a tune on 91. I am wanting to push over the 400hp mark while retaining a good level of reliability.

I've seen 400 on stock but that is right at the point where you need to start pushing out of the stock realm.

depends who you talk to, i say 400 is the most and still reliable. It all depends on how you drive it if you beat the crap out of a stock evo all the time youll blow it up eventually. just my 2 cents

I am pretty sure Chris at Mellon tuning has pushed over 520 on the stock bottom end with a HTA35R kit on his Evo. He drives his car on a regular basis and drag races it fairly regulary too. I would have to agree though that the stock rod bolts need to go and head studs should be used if you turn up the boost significantly. Just my .02

500+awhp for about 10k miles now I'd guess...I run it hard daily and drag race pretty much weekly. Stock rod bolts but I did do the ARP head studs. I spin it to 8500rpm with the HKS 280 cams and stock springs.

30psi on 93 octane, stock mas, stock ecu, stock block, stock head.

I put c16 in it and tuned it to the same AFR and boost but added 4* of timing and it was showing 565awhp, did a few passes like that a month ago but the clutch was failing and I couldn't get it into 4th very well at all

got a new BR shorty/head/cam on the way now.

Lots of 500whp Evos here. 500whp stock block club If the motor is good for 500 it should hold 400 OK.

Still doesn't mean your engine won't grenade with 300whp. There are a million factors out there that can decide whether your bottom end is going to hold "X" amount of power.

I have about 6k on mine so far and spin it to 8200 very often. No problems so far. Knock on wood!

I guess the real question should be...not how much can the stock bottom end handle...but rather for how long?

good points made:

1) some engines blow with stock hp, there are no guarantees
2) just because it makes 500 that doesn't mean it'll last forever at that power

personally I started saving up for a built shorty the day I made 500awhp, just in case.
