I got the app yesterday and was playing a bit with it to see how to set it up. I figured i'd just put it in the cup holder and it be ok. So i set it up in the cup holder and took off. Well the phone plunged all the way to the rear of the cup holder and the results were; 2.2 60 9.85 1/4 max speed 170 and 1.83 g's of acceleration with 1258 hp. The only thing believable is the 60' . I have to find a way so snugly and securely hold the phone. I have an old ipod cup holder adapter ima see if that works.

Nice video on Garage419 showing its accuracy. They compare gtech vs iPhone vs time slip. Seems pretty accurate.

Great link

To sum up what they found with the iPhone;

They tested a Mini Cooper on a Dyno Dynamics and got 165.5whp, the iPhone rated the car at 170.

Then they took the car to a drag strip, and this is what they found;

....................Track Time slip..............iPhone
60'...................2.811....................... ...2.83
330..................6.883........................ ..6.88
1/8..................10.245......................... 10.27
MPH.................73.27......................... ..73.1
1000................13.149........................ .13.17
1/4..................15.614......................... .15.65
MPH ................91.29............................9 0.6

Pretty amazing.

The G-Tech didn't do nearly as well.

The gtech pro can be made very accurate,It tells you in the manual to go to the track and if you mph is off to adjust +/- per mph difference.
Does this application have an adjustment to make it more accuarte?
If it doesn't then it would be accurate in cars which do not pull the front end up and in other cars making the iphone think it is accellerating faster than it actually is when the front picks up.

why would it not be accurate if the front picks up? it is a 3 axis accelerometer, so therefor if it rotates a bit, it will still be able to rear acceleration based off the two axis that are feeling the acceleration.

acceleration in two dimensions can be determined by each axis by taking the square root of the sum of the squares of each axis.

the sensor is not a yaw sensor so any rolling pitching or yawing that may go on are not detected.

I'm surprised not many bought the app and submitted some numbers. I WANNA SEE MORE!!! and it seems pretty accurate as long as it doesn't jump around in the cupholder. maybe put it on the passenger seat?

Personally I would use long zip ties to strap it on top of the arm rest lid.

My friend got it and his car made 230whp on the dyno and the Dynolicious Software for the apple said it has 233whp.. now thats freakin amazing. it uses the Girochip that is in the ipohone that reads and calculates motion.. So by entering the accurate weight of the vehicle it is able to figure your peak horsepower

i think it has to do with more than weight i tried it on my 98 legacy bone stock and it said i ran a 17.7 at 77 pretty acurate to me but it also said it was 165hp im pretty sure thats way off because others with same car moddy are only putting down 120s. i think the drivetrain loss has a bit to do with it. ill be trying this on the evo the first nice day that comes around just my 2cents
