this is my car; what ould you do (evo?)
this is my car; what would you do (evo?)
conundrum
I've been seriously considering buying an EVO
the problem is, I'd have to give up this (sort of)
the deal is, my wife would "buy' this car from me (essentially, helping me pay for the EVO)
but I love her (the car also) so much I'm not sure I can part with it.....
the financial realities of buying an EVO -vs.- upgrading my Impreza RS..
it's a tough call
I could never match the performance of the EVO with my car
but I could get close (eventually), turbo, TMIC, brembo, etc.....
damn, it's an issue
what are your thoughts, what should I do?

I appreciate your thoughts
but the GC8 holds my heart dearly
if I had traded her in for a WRX when they debuted there'd be no question....

EVO over 03 WRX(had 6K on the car)
1. Warranty
2. No need to upgrade, u got everything u need
3. Moon Roof
And yes, i lost a chunk of money on the trade-in...

I thought I had, honestly, in favor of the EVO
Subaru didn't come out with the WRX or the STi here in the GC8 body style..... The EVO absolutely kicks ***, IMHO, and I'd love to own one, and always have... but the original Impreza body style is hard to give up...

It's nice and all... But not even on the ame planet as the EVO... You will be spending sooo much money building that one up... I personally know a guy that thought he was gonna do the same thing... After he put about 4g's into the car to turbocharge it and intercool, and suspension... He traded it in anyways and is much happier....

Tough decision...
I understand your problem, I was there myself 2 months ago. My 99 RS was my first new car, easy to toss around and I loved how it looked. However, when it came time to put $$$ down to really make it fast (straight line, already did the suspension) here's what I came across:
Turbo kit: $5K
-Engine management (to actually make it work) $1K
- Transmission (for when I accidentally grenade my 5 spd) $5-10K
($10K for the 6 spd or else you keep replacing 5 spds)
- Brakes $2K
- Finding someone to put it together and tune it the right way? Priceless! Just kidding, but it will be expensive.
The goal in my case is to make something driveable everyday and hassle-free. When I looked at dropping 20K to get CLOSE to the STi or Evo, it just didn't make much financial sense. Especially when working with a chasis nearing 100K miles.
The Subaru dealer in town was a jerk (but did have an STi on the floor), and lied to me about some stuff, so I bought the Evo. And I haven't regretted it a day since.
I hope this helps some.

If you like that RS, you're going to be absolutely in love with the Evo. It's already got everything you could ever want to do to that RS, and when it comes time to make it faster - you can do it a hell of a lot easier.
yeah, i hear ya about the upgrading costs. I went and figured out the shopping list of items I'd want to buy for the Subaru and it added up to about $18,000..... it'd be fun doing the work though. another arguement against is throwing that kind of money at the Sube isn't going to significantly increase the resale value of it (if I ever HAD to sell it). so it's kind of a bad investment. Another point to clear up, the Impreza will stay in our garage, I'm not giving it up completely.... it's going to the wife....
