Help, car is sick

recently i bought a Evo 9 from carmax. I drove it home and everything was fine. A few days passed the car started being wierd, everytime i would drive past 4000 rpm the car would jump and black smoke would come out. I thought hey i could just take it to carmax and they could fix it, so i went on the highway and realized my car wouldnt even go past 45 and while im driving it would jump and black smoke will continue to come out the back :-X

sick car.

I agree sounds like an intercooler pipe popped off..probably the lower one which sucks cause youll have to remove the splash guard to get to it. Disconnect your mass air plug and your car wont puff out smoke but you wont be able to go more than like 45 or 50mph. it will be driveable though. I had that happen to me and went to wal mart and bought some of those cheap dryer clamps for you hoses on your clothes dryer at home. !! Ha that crap got me by till I could get a new t clamp the next day.

why did you ask if you were going to the dealership anyway? if its an intercooler pipe then thats a 5 minute fix and there is no need in going to the dealer

intercooler piping coming off and he would be barely moving... no way going 45mph

check spark plugs.

check the snorkle clips on the intake (unless it is not stock). If the clips are off or loose the snorkle gets sucked to the hood.Could also be a boost leak or a ic hose poped off. Check the ic hose to the Throttle body, see if it is off or loose.
New plugs is a good idea anyway ( always keep a set in the trunk, cheap and easy).

I was thinking something similar. When I popped the hose off my throttle body once, my car wouldn't even *idle*, let alone get anywhere near 45 mph.
